Critics of Donald Trump have drawn attention to his campaign promises around reducing the price of groceries as the cost of living rises.
During his campaign to be elected for a second term in the White House one of the issues that Trump drew attention to was the price of groceries.
His promises about the cost of living have since been widely considered to have been a key issue in Trump's victory in 2024 and his subsequent return to the White House for a second term.
But critics of the president have since drawn attention to prices continuing to rise in the US, including of day to day necessities like groceries.

Taking to social media one critic of the president posted an image of Trump superimposed with a quote from the president from his campaign.
This read: "So when I win I will immediately bring prices down starting on day one."

People reposted the image with their own takes, with one writing: "Has day one started yet?"
Meanwhile another quipped: "Ironically he gestured at coffee," with coffee being one of the products impacted by Trump's tariff policy.
The criticism came after a report from the American Affordability Tracker said that the cost of groceries in the US has risen ahead of wage growth, meaning that everyday essentials are becoming a bigger financial burden on households.
Over the last six years since 2019, the report claimed that the average monthly cost of groceries rose by 32 percent.
Meanwhile during the same period wage growth was lower than this, at around 29 percent.
The report also went into depth about the costs of childcare, using an example of a family with two parents and two children.
It said that childcare costs for two young children rose 40 percent since 2017, compared to average earnings going up by 37 percent in that period.
Rent was also up by 50 percent in that period, while 'home sale' prices were up by a whopping 80 percent and health insurance by 41 percent.

The cost of living has not just been a focal point for the president, with New York City's mayor elect Zohran Mamdani also basing his successful mayoral campaign on making the city affordable.
Mamdani has made a point of addressing Trump on this issue, accusing the president of making promises he hasn't kept, as well as assuring New Yorkers that he will deliver on his campaign promises, which include the interesting policy of government run grocery stores.
His website said: “Without having to pay rent or property taxes, they will reduce overhead and pass on savings to shoppers.
“They will buy and sell at wholesale prices, centralize warehousing and distribution, and partner with local neighborhoods on products and sourcing.”
