A video captured in Austria appears to show a young man hesitating at the top of a diving board before a lifeguard decides to kick him off.

It seems that the young man was nervous about making the leap as he clinched on to the barriers surrounding the top of the board.

The viral clip shows the lifeguard seemingly grow inpatient with the boy after using his feet to kick him in the lower back off into the water.

Austrian publication OÖNachrichten claims that internal investigations are ongoing with the company and local authorities.

Reports suggest that the lifeguard involved can no longer work at that specific branch and has been suspended from work for the summer period.

Steyrer Stadtbades (SBS) - the authority in charge of the swimming pool - confirmed the incident in their statement.

The SBS statement reads: "SBS will do everything they can so that the Steyrer, and the Steyrer in the future can bring an enjoyable and comfortable time at Steyrer Stadtbad.

"A lifeguards job is to ensure the safety of customers.

"Therefore it is very regrettable that the lifeguard was involved with the fall.

"We are doing all we can to be clear of the circumstances."

SBS has reportedly met with people who were visiting the pool at the time of the incident.

They also said to have apologised for the 'lapse in judgement' shown by the lifeguard.

It's unclear exactly when the video of the incident was filmed.

Well, the video shared by Gabi Kwiatkowski on Facebook has been viewed 97,000 times, at the time of writing, with one person commenting: "You can get extremely injured if you fall so uncontrollably from a height and hit water.

"It would be extremely extreme if he hit his stomach, it could even burst open."

Another said: "I suspect the city employee, these lifeguards, will soon be out of their job because of this."
