NFL star DK Metcalf has been suspended for the rest of the season following a confrontation with a football fan.
The Pittsburgh Steelers player got into an altercation with a fan of the opposing football team, the Detroit Lions, during a game on December 21.
Captured by CBS cameras, the 28-year-old wide receiver appeared to grab the sports fan by the shirt and slap them in the face after they seemed to be taunting DK from the stands.
The incident happened in the first half of the Pittsburgh Steelers versus Detroit Lions game, which ultimately saw the Steelers defeat the Lions 29-24.

The Detroit Lions fan, identified as Ryan Kennedy from Pinckney, Michigan, has since spoken with the Detroit Free Press about the altercation.
According to Ryan, the incident took place after he called DK by his full name, DeKaylin Zecharius Metcalf.

"He doesn't like his government name," Ryan claimed to the outlet. "I called him that, and then he grabbed me and ripped my shirt. I'm a little shocked. Like everyone's talking to me. I'm a little rattled, but I just want the Lions to win, baby."
However, DK claimed that Ryan used multiple derogatory words.
The fan denied these allegations in a statement issued through his attorney.
As a result of the incident, which the NFL terms 'conduct detrimental' to the team, DK now faces a two-game suspension and has consequently voided a minimum of $45 million of future guaranteed payments.
In March 2025, DK signed a four-year contract for $132 million which, according to CBS Sports, states that if he 'fails… to practice or play with the Club for any reason', including 'Player's suspension by the NFL or Club for Conduct Detrimental', his guarantees 'will be NULL AND VOID'.
According to a report from CBS, the player plans to appeal the suspension, which will be heard by the sport's Commissioner, Roger Goodell, or one of his designees.

Before the altercation, DK's $25 million salary for 2026 was fully guaranteed, but should his appeal be rejected and his suspension remain intact, even for just one game, his contract guarantees will be deemed void.
CBS Sports reported that it is unlikely that the Pittsburgh Steelers would part ways with DK before the 2026 season. DK is described as the Steelers' 'top receiver' and is an extremely valuable member of the team. However, if this incident marks the end of his season, it will be the least productive year of his professional football career.
It may not be the first time that the wide receiver has had a run-in with Ryan.
According to an X post from NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero, DK had previously reported the fan to security while he played for the Seattle Seahawks.
