There's a 'number one mistake' men are making in marriages which are causing them to break down according to a divorce lawyer.

If you've been through your fair share of break-ups, make-ups and are now trying to embark on a period of singlehood, figure out exactly what you want or how to go into another relationship without f**king it up, then listen in.

A divorce lawyer called Sara J. Corcoran from Corcoran Family Law in New Jersey uses the firm's TikTok page to share advice - although, the page notes it's 'not legal advice', which is slightly confusing. One video reveals the 'number one mistake' that men specifically are making in marriages.

In a post shared in July, she explains: "The number one mistake men make in marriage from a divorce lawyer.

"A spouse who never participates in household chores often breeds resentment in the other spouse.

"There's not going to then be one incident which results in some extreme fight that ends the marriage, it's a slow burn.

"So my advice to you guys out there if you want to stay married is empty the dishwasher every once in a while."

And it's not taken long for people to weigh in.

One TikTok user said: "A lot of guys turn their wife into their mother then are shocked when she wants a divorce."

"I love when my husband does chores without me saying anything," another added.

However, it didn't take long for some angry men to hop on into the discussion.

A user said: "That's not a mistake. that's a woman who wants you to do everything."

"Number one mistake we make is getting married biggest mistake we make of our lives why would any man want to do that," a second wrote.

Well, if you really needed the point emphasized, then look no further then Katy Perry's comments about fiancé Orlando Bloom about what happens when he gets his act together and washes the dishes every now and again.

During an appearance on Alex Cooper's Call Her Daddy podcast, the 'Firework' singer revealed an x-rated insight into her relationship with Bloom.

She said: "If I come downstairs and the kitchen is clean, and you've done it all, and you've done all the dishes, and you've closed all the pantry doors, you better be ready to get your d**k sucked."

Well, there you have it, at least you can now weigh up the pros and cons of living in the same house as a partner, eh?
