This week, the world's first Pokémon LEGO set dropped online and sold out instantly, but fans are divided over the price.

In case you missed it, LEGO has launched a Pokémon collaboration, which features three coveted sets: Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise, Pikachu and Poké Ball (£179.99), and Eevee (£54.99).

Within a matter of hours, 6,939-piece Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise temporarily sold out in the US, as fans were desperate to get their hands on the limited-edition gift with purchase: the Kanto Region Badge Collection.

Designed for serious Pokémon fans, the GWP is a collector's item which holds eight region badges: Boulder, Cascade, Thunder, Rainbow, Soul, Marsh, Volcano and Earth.

The set boasts 312 pieces and is secured with a catch inspired by a Poké Ball.

An impressive 6.838-piece set, Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise features three Pokémon evolutions figures inspired by the original designs.

It's unlikely the gift with purchase will come back in stock as it was limited edition, so the only way to get your hands on it right now is via second-hand sites such as eBay.

But the sell-out has left some fans disappointed with many divided over its whopping $649.99 price tag.

"In regards to it being LEGO and brick-to-price, it’s generally less than 10 cents per brick, which is reasonable enough," one shared on Reddit.

"With that being said, yeah no. $650 for a LEGO set is madness, Pokémon or not," they continued.

Another argued, "Pikachu seems a little expensive given the size, otherwise these seem like pretty standard LEGO prices as far. As I'm aware, big sets are very expensive."

A third added: "I don’t understand why this set is causing such a huge outcry, when it’s literally priced more reasonably than most licensed LEGO sets.

For price comparison, the recent Stranger Things Creel House (2,593 pieces) cost $299.99, whilst the Star Trek: U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D™ (3,600 pieces) came in at $399.99.

So, what's still in stock, and will the gift with purchase return? Find out what you need to know below.
