A YouTube video discussing the brutal realities of a plane crash has sent chills down some people’s spine.
A plane crash is something most people hope to avoid and chances are you will never experience one, but some people still remain curious as to what actually happens in a fatal plane crash.
YouTube page Grunge got into the gruesome details of what can happen to your body if you die in a plane crash, and it isn’t pretty.
The details were so grim that people commented just how much the video had scared them off getting on planes.
The video narrator of the 2022 video first explained that statistically speaking, traveling by air is still one of the safest ways to travel as a person is much more likely to die in a car accident than a plane crash.
In addition to this, the actual number of fatalities from plane crashes has continuously decreased over the decades.
Probably best not to even think about what could happen if your plane goes down (Getty Stock Image) According to a US National Transportation Safety Board report, 95 percent of people in plane crashes between 1983 and 1999 survived, including 55 percent in the most severe accidents.
But in the unlikely event you do die, it can be a lot more morbid than you might expect.
The narrator of the Grunge video said: “If the plane crash proves fatal for those on board the bodies are grievously injured along the way.
“So much so that it makes cataloguing the injuries incredibly difficult, some of these injuries might include disintegration, dismemberment and detachment of the skin.
“Moreover, major lacerations and crushing can occur as well. Factors including speed, size and the site of the crash determine what will remain of the body.
“Although, often large numbers of body parts are missing and sometimes the remains are found far from the rest of the plane because if decompression occurs when a plane falls apart in the air, it can suck out bodies and seats outside."
The narrator admitted while this sounds all pretty horrifying, a small plus is that those who do end up dying likely face minimal suffering.
They noted that if a crash is sudden during flight, a person would likely pass out and only be conscious for a moment or two, well before impact.
The brutal injuries from crashes would also cause immediate death, snapping the neck, spine and causing hefty damage to the brain.
A post-mortem related to a 1950 crash of a Viking aircraft of British European Airways in thick fog at London Airport (now Heathrow), revealed how the passengers died.

Going on to summarise the causes of death, it said there were 10 fractured skulls, one fractured cervical spine, one brain haemorrhage, eight ruptured aorta, three ruptured lungs, three ruptured hearts and two ruptured livers/spleens.
As this was all a bit gruesome, some YouTube users remarked on their own fears and stories while also noting they won’t be flying anytime soon.
One user simply commented: “I’m never flying again.”
Another said: “That's why I don't travel aboard planes. I'm not scared of flying but crashing.”
A third joked: "As far as plane vs car If my car runs out of gas/breaks down, I don’t fall out of the sky.”
With another adding: “I didn't need to watch this to understand how fragile the human body is but I did.”
