A lottery winner who's won a whopping $65 million has made one crucial mistake that could mean they miss out on a massive fortune.

The chances of winning the lottery in Australia - where the ticket was purchased - is a lowly one in 62 million. But someone's got to win it, right?

Well, last week, someone claimed the entire AUD$100 million ($65 million) Powerball jackpot, but a week on, are still yet to claim their life-changing winnings.

The winning ticket was sold at Bondi Junction Newsagency & Internet Cafe, but because the winner hasn't registered the ticket to an account, there's no way The Lott can contact them.

On June 12, the numbers were 28, 10, 3, 16, 31, 14 and 21, while a Powerball of 6 was drawn.

The Lott spokesperson Khat McIntyre has urged fellow lottery players to register their ticket to The Lott Members Club so they can be contacted in the event of a big victory.

“It’s the question many Aussies have been asking during the past seven days: who won last week’s $100 million Powerball prize, and do they know they’ve won?” she said.

“By registering your in-store or online lottery entry to The Lott Members Club, not only are we able to contact you straight after the draw if you win big, but your prize is secure.

“Even if you happen to lose or damage your winning ticket, if it is registered to you, we could still unite you with your prize, providing the ultimate peace of mind."

McIntyre added: "Remember, your lottery ticket could be worth millions of dollars, so it makes sense that if you’re going to buy a ticket, you should register it to The Lott Members Club.

“Joining is easy and free – simply ask your retailer when you’re next in-store or register online or via The Lott app.”

While there is a risk the lottery winner may not be able to claim their prize, players in New South Wales have six years to claim the prizes. Nonetheless, lottery officials are keen to speak to the winner and issue them with their massive prize.

On top of that, the winner would have the money in their bank account promptly, if all the usual checks are passed of course.

"We pay division one prizes two weeks after the draw, so this prize is ready to be put into someone’s bank account in a week’s time – on Friday 27 June 2025. What a way to end the financial year!" McIntyre added.

"The first step is to give us a call on 131 868 if you think you are holding the division one winning entry."
