A Miss Universe executive caused controversy at a pre-pageant event in Thailand after berating one of the contestants.

The official event is set to take place on November 21 but preparation ahead of the big night has already begun.

The women taking part in the ceremony were addressed by pageant executive Nawat Itsaragrisil yesterday (November 3) which was live-streamed on the Miss Universe Facebook page.

But things took a turn for the worst when Itsaragrisil berated Miss Mexico in front of all her peers.

This year, Fátima Bosch is representing Mexico and she reportedly failed to take part in a photoshoot to promote Thailand which they were then expected to share on their respective social media pages.

He further claimed that Bosch didn't take part in the shoot because Mexico's pageant director told her not to.

The contestant is thought to have denied his claims. While doing so Itsaragrisil interrupted her and asked her to confirm that she would post about Thailand, says PEOPLE.

At one point it's thought that Itsaragrisil called Bosch a 'dummy', which sparked outrage with the other contestants.

While Bosch was 'dismissed' by him, she remained standing to say her piece.

He said: "I still keep talking to everybody, why you still stand up to talk to me?"

"Because I have a voice,” she replied, adding: "You are not respecting me as a woman."

After a few minutes of back-and-forth Itsaragrisil goes on to call for security and the women are audibly heard saying 'no' in disagreement.

As Bosch left the room, she told Itsaragrisil: "As women, you need to show respect for us. I’m here representing a country and it’s not my fault that you have problems with my organization."

A handful of contestants then got to their feet and followed Bosch out. The current Miss Universe Victoria Kjær Theilvig is believed to have been among those who chose to leave.

But Itsaragrisil urged them to stop and told them that if they wanted to continue in the contest that they should sit down.

Miss Bonaire is then filmed speaking to Itsaragrisil saying he should bring her back.

"We can fix this. We can bring her back," she said in a bid to try and keep the peace. "We're having such a great time in Thailand. This is such a great place. You're doing everything right. Let's get her to come back."

In the wake of the controversy, Itsaragrisil has issued an apology on social media.

He said in a video: "If anyone [was] feeling not good, if anyone [was] not comfortable. If anyone [was affected], I do apologize for everyone."

Itsaragrisil added that he also apologized to the contestants in the room at the time of the incident.
