Marvel fans are upset after Disney announced that the release dates for six upcoming films have been pushed back.

The delays have been put down to the impact of the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike. The last time we saw such widespread industrial action from TV and film writers was in 2007, running for 100 days before reaching an agreement.

As the strike continues, many studios and shows have come to a standstill.

The current strike began on May 2 after negotiations between the union and studios broke down due to pay concerns.

Scripts for TV and film projects across the industry are not ready and production has paused on countless projects from other studios as well, including Stranger Things.

Marvel has paused production on Thunderbolts and Blade while the strike continues, meanwhile scripts are not ready for the two new Avengers films.

Anthony Mackie will star in Captain America: Brave New World.

However, it’s not all bad news, especially if you’re a fan of Deadpool. The Ryan Reynolds film will be released next summer on May 3, 2024 instead of November 8, 2024.

Captain America: Brave New World, which is currently filming in Atlanta, Georgia, has been pushed from May 3, 2024 to July 26, 2024.

Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) will become Captain America in the film, which will serve as the fourth entry in the Captain America franchise.

Thunderbolts will still be released next year, however, it’s moving from its summer release date of July 26, 2024 to one in the heart of the festive season, December 20, 2024.

Mahershala Ali’s Blade moves from September 6, 2024 to Valentine’s Day 2025, which will coincide with Presidents’ Day.

Marvel fanatics will have to wait a little bit longer to see the third iteration of Fantastic Four on the big screen. The MCU version has been shifted from February 14, 2025 to May 2, 2025.

In a shocking move, Deadpool 3 has been moved up.

Finally, the two new Avengers films have both been delayed by a year. Avengers: Kang Dynasty moves from May 2, 2025 to May 1, 2026, while Avengers: Secret Wars has been delayed from May 1, 2026 to May 7, 2027.

The news, as you can imagine, hasn’t been taken very well by superfans.

“This is like the red wedding of movie delays,” one fan said, referencing the massacre in Game of Thrones.

One Twitter user replied: “That's a lot of delays for Marvel.”

Another heartbroken fan tweeted: “Blade delayed again.”

However one happy fan gushed: “Deadpool 3 is actually releasing sooner, which is great for me since is my most anticipated MCU project lol.”

Disney has also earmarked the following dates for untitled films: September 6, 2024; March 21, 2025, a Marvel movie for July 25, 2025, August 8, 2025 and a Marvel film on November 7, 2025.
