KFC adds item to menu that hasn't been seen since the 1990s

KFC has brought back an iconic product for the first time in years, and it might surprise you what it actually is.

When all things are considered, few would question Kentucky Fried Chicken’s supremacy at the top of the chicken fast food chain, but the product it's brought back has set it directly at odds with McDonald’s, and – no - it's not creating a hamburger to rival the Big Mac - although McDonald's did release a Chicken Big Mac in recent times.

Instead, it’s actually a chicken product, which you’ll likely be surprised to learn it hasn't been doing the whole time.

Still, it’s going to be ‘worth the wait’ according to publicity around the announcement.

We’ll be the judge of that, but the chain is claiming this product will be like we’ve ‘never had before’.

As of yesterday, chicken nuggets are back on the menu at KFC.

Ah yes, simple small pieces of chicken in a box – it’s a classic, but that market has largely been dominated by the McNugget for years.

The new nuggets went on sale on Monday after a test run the company described as ‘wildly successful’ and they’re now in restaurants nationwide.

The plan seems to be simple – take the Original Recipe that has made KFC famous around the world, then coat smaller bits of chicken in it.

It’s as easy as that.

According to KFC’s PR release, we’ve been living through a ‘nugget blandemic’ and ‘settling for mediocre nuggets for far too long’.

So, KFC says, ‘the fried chicken experts are empowering America to break up with bland and end it with cookie-cutter shapes and open their hearts and mouths to Kentucky Fried Chicken Nuggets’.

Nick Chavez, KFC USA’s CMO, said: "As the original fried chicken experts, we're introducing a chicken nugget made the way only KFC can – hand-breaded with our distinctive Original Recipe of 11 herbs and spices.

"Simply put, you've never had chicken nuggets like these – they're the chicken nugget America deserves, and worth the wait.

“Now that's Finger Lickin' Good!"

KFC Nuggets start at $3.49 and come in boxes containing five, eight, 12, or 36 pieces, with combo options available, with Secret Recipe Fries, as well as a biscuit or medium drink.

The press release continues: “Each juicy nugget is bursting with so much flavor it doesn't require dipping, though that doesn't mean you can't!

“The new nuggets can be paired with any of your favorite KFC sauces, including KFC Sauce, Honey BBQ, Classic Ranch, Honey Mustard or Buffalo Ranch.”
