Johnny Depp has been pictured cuddling an orphaned badger at an animal rescue centre in Kent.

Depp’s visit came shortly before it was revealed he had won his defamation case against his ex-wife Amber Heard, and the Pirates of the Caribbean star appeared in high spirits as he cradled the orphaned animal, named Freddie.

Staff at Folly Wildlife Rescue said Depp was ‘blown away’ by the centre.

Sharing a photo of Depp and Freddie on social media, Folly Wildlife Rescue wrote: “'What an incredible afternoon it was for our staff and volunteers, as he toured the hospital's care and vet units.”

The caption continued: “Johnny was incredibly complimentary and in his own words 'blown away' by what he saw.

“To top the visit off, we even allowed him the rare privilege of briefly holding Freddie (as in Mercury!) one of the many orphaned badger cubs we're currently hand rearing - and I think it's fair to say he was bowled over by the whole experience!”

Depp visited the centre alongside musician Jeff Beck and his wife Sandra, according to MailOnline.

Following a six-week trial in Fairfax, Virginia, a seven-member jury decided this week that Depp had been defamed by his ex-wife Amber Heard in a 2018 Washington Post op-ed, awarding him more than $10m in damages.

Depp swiftly released a statement in response to the verdict, writing in part: “Six years ago, my life, the life of my children, the lives of those closest to me, and also, the lives of the people who for many, many years have supported and believed in me were forever changed. All in the blink of an eye.

"False, very serious and criminal allegations were levied at me via the media, which triggered an endless barrage of hateful content, although no charges were ever brought against me. It had already travelled around the world twice within a nanosecond and it had a seismic impact on my life and my career.

"And six years later, the jury gave me my life back. I am truly humbled."

He continued: "My decision to pursue this case, knowing very well the height of the legal hurdles that I would be facing and the inevitable, worldwide spectacle into my life, was only made after considerable thought.

"From the very beginning, the goal of bringing this case was to reveal the truth, regardless of the outcome. Speaking the truth was something that I owed to my children and to all those who have remained steadfast in their support of me. I feel at peace knowing I have finally accomplished that.”
