A man has taken to social media to thank Apple after his wife's iPhone crash detection feature led him to her faster than the ambulance.

We've all seen the iPhone adverts which show how an Apple Watch or other features on IOS can monitor your health, help you call for help in an emergency and potentially save your life.

A man has since taken to Reddit to speak out about how the iPhone crash detection feature helped him find his wife after she'd been involved in a car accident.

People have since flooded to social media to applaud Apple for the feature.

The husband explained his wife had been driving home from the store and they'd been on the phone when he suddenly 'heard her scream'.

The line then 'went dead' but 'within several seconds' he was alerted from her iPhone she had been involved in a crash. The crash detection feature even sent the husband his partner's 'exact location'.

The post continues: "I rush over there and was there before the ambulance arrived, which her phone had called."

It was lucky the husband arrived when he did - his wife having been involved in a 'head-on' collision with a 'distracted driver'.

He explained how witnesses at the scene had attempted to call him, but his wife was 'so shook up that she wasn't able to give them [his] phone number correctly'.

The Redditor 'only knew' his wife had been involved in an accident because of her iPhone.

He resolved: "If not for her iPhone, I never would have known and I would’ve been left wondering what had happened and worrying.

"I cannot express my appreciation enough for that crash detection feature.

"Both her and the other driver are OK and are both recovering."

If your iPhone or Apple Watch detects you've been in a crash it will trigger the Emergency SOS function.

Fellow Redditors have flooded to the post to share their well-wishes to the user's wife to have a speedy recovery, as well as sharing their own experiences of iPhone safety features.

One user said: "I cannot imagine being in that situation. That's both scary and a relief to know she's okay.

"Have to give credit where it's due... Apple really did a great job with this one."

The feature will call emergency services if you don't respond after a certain amount of time.

Another explained how a friend of their family was knocked unconscious by a falling tree branch while he was out walking with his toddler.

Luckily the child was unharmed and the man received medical attention.

"His watch detected that he had fallen, alerted his wife, and called an ambulance. SOS and fall detection are life savers," they said.

Other Redditers have flooded to the post to applaud Apple for the feature.

The original Redditor explained his wife is 'hurting, but alive' and has 'no major lasting damage' from the scary incident.

Apple writes on its website: "Crash Detection is designed to detect severe car crashes – such as front-impact, side-impact and rear-end collisions and rollovers – involving saloons, minivans, 4X4s, pickup trucks and other passenger cars.

"When a severe car crash is detected, your iPhone or Apple Watch sounds an alarm and displays an alert.

"If you’re able to, you can choose to call emergency services or dismiss the alert.

"If you’re unable to respond, your device automatically calls emergency services after a 20-second delay.

"If you’ve added emergency contacts, your device sends a message to share your location and let them know that you’ve been in a severe car crash."

The feature is available on iPhone 14s with the latest version of iOS, along with Apple Watch Series 8, Apple Watch SE (2nd generation), and Apple Watch Ultra with the latest WatchOS.
