Everyone’s saying the same thing after seeing ‘insane’ cockpit footage of pilots flying into eye of Hurricane Melissa

The NOAA Hurricane Hunters are truly dedicated to their craft...

While most people will have found secure shelter during Hurricane Melissa, others headed straight for the eye of the storm.

Melissa, which has been branded the 'storm of the century', hit Jamaica on Tuesday (October 28) and has left a trail of devastation behind.

Initially, it was a Category 5 storm — the highest category there is — and sustained winds exceeding 157mph. As Melissa made its way to Cuba, it dropped down to a Category 3 storm, but it has still caused a lot of destruction.

As of today (October 30), the hurricane has claimed the lives of 29 people, The Guardian reports. Four of these deaths were in Jamaica.

The general public was told to find a safe space to be in when the hurricane hit, but a team from the NOAA Hurricane Hunters flew straight into it.

Shocking footage from the team shared to Facebook shows team in the cockpit of a plane. They appeared pretty calm, despite the fact they were heading into the eye of one of the biggest hurricanes recorded in recent years. See it here:

They captioned the video: "Heading straight into the eye of Hurricane #Melissa on @NOAA WP-3D Orion #NOAA42 'Kermit' to collect critical data that helps improve forecasts and research."

The video has since had thousands of reviews, with a lot people commenting the same thing...

Someone said: "God bless these pilots, because if that were me in that cockpit, there would have been boo boo everywhere."

A second wrote: "Pilots bounced around and act like nothing happened. .... me as passenger, peeing my pants."

As a third echoed: "Nads of steel! Holy cow, you couldn't pay me in gold coins to do that, bravery personified!"

And a different person commented: "I sure hope they are getting their paychecks, but there's no amount of money they could offer to me."

"Thats' a hard NO for me," said another. Me too, Linda.

Melissa hit parts of Bermuda today as a Category 1 storm. Per the Met Office, this means the hurricane will have wind speeds of up to 95mph.

At this level, it shouldn't cause significant structural damage, but Melissa may uproot trees and cause some flooding in coastal areas.

There are now fears that the hurricane could make a fourth landfall, says The Independent. Melissa could hit parts of Newfoundland, Canada, tomorrow and into the weekend.
