The devastating impact of Alzheimer’s disease has been detailed by the daughters of a mother with the life-limiting illness.
It's estimated that 7.2 million Americans live with Alzheimer’s, with a staggering one in nine people aged 65 and over having the disease.
As we know, symptoms of Alzheimer's or dementia can include forgetfulness, but other forms of the disease can cause hallucinations, stiffness, and anxiety.
With the disease being common among the older generation, million of families across the country are affected by Alzheimer’s and the reality of a loved one living with the horrible condition.

Chris Hemsworth: A Road Trip to Remember, which is available to stream on Disney+ and Hulu, documented Margaret's story of living with the disease.
Described as 'the superhero parent, handling everything', Margaret has a family history of Alzheimer's after her father died from the disease.

So, while her diagnosis was devastating, it didn't come as too much of a surprise and she was already aware what the next few years will likely entail for herself, as well as her family.

While some would be reluctant to go and get checked out, Margaret and her children noticed some concerning signs from the off.
Lisa, Margaret's daughter, said: "It's kind of weird, my mom has always been a superhero kind of mom. She always organised everything and knew where everything was. For her to have that little lapse in her memory was very different and I knew something was wrong."
Margaret then went on to say she would often get 'confused about where we were', which she described as 'not being like me'.
Lisa recalled one occasion which really concerned her and the rest of the family when Margaret went to Costco for groceries.

Once Margaret had returned home, Lisa asked her mother where she had been, a question she was unable to answer.
Lisa followed-up by pointing out the pizza in Margaret's hand, which lead to the daughter asking the Costco question again. 'I guess I must have', Margaret replied.
Lisa's sibling, who recently had a child, noticed her mother forgetting things such as when the baby's diaper had last been changed, which only added to the family's concerns.
While the disease has no cure, Margaret and her family are determined to live life to the full and recently embarked on a trip back to their home in Okinawa, Japan.
