A man has shared his experience after gaining an 'Ozempic penis' as medics explain the bizarre phenomenon.

Ozempic, an injection marketed for people with type two diabetes to help them manage their blood sugar levels, has become popular in recent years among those hoping to shed a few pounds.

The brand name for a medicine called semaglutide, the drug was approved in 2017 by the US Food and Drug Aministration (FDA) to help diabetics, but some have been using it purely for weight loss as it suppresses appetite.

But Ozempic seems to affect penis size as well.

It comes off the back of new data, which found that between 2022 and 2024, the average size of a British penis has increased by 0.46 inches, from 5.17 inches to 5.63.

Meanwhile, Venezuelans came out on top and saw the biggest growth to their penises over the two year period - increasing by 1.42 inches and reaching 6.67 inches.

Speaking to Diabetes.co.uk, Dr Richard Viney said: "Men’s penises shorten as they get older (due to) increasing body fat and increasing prostate size drawing the penis back into the body.

"It is theoretically possible new drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy, which are used to treat diabetes and obesity respectively and can cause people to lose weight, could also be a factor. As men lose weight, their penises appear larger."

One unidentified male who has been using Ozempic has explained how he noticed a difference down there after taking the drug.

Taking to Reddit, the man penned: "I recently measured myself down there and noticed I gained about 1 inch. Now I think people will say it was because of the fat loss, however at the time I measured myself before 4 years ago was thinner.

"I also bone pressed during measurement before and also this time."

There is obviously a lot of talk surrounding penis size, but it's important to remember that in medical terms, the size of one's manhood really doesn't matter.

Speaking to Diabetes.co.uk once more, pharmacist Navin Khosla said: “While the data is interesting, penis size doesn’t matter in a medical sense.

“Just like how some people prefer different fashion styles, eye colours, or characteristics in a partner, some people are more attracted to larger penises or breasts, while others prefer smaller ones.”

While Ozempic has become popular, the long-term effects of taking the drugs, particularly on muscle loss, remain unclear at this time.

After people conclude taking a course of Ozempic, Dr Ben Bickman, a scientist and professor at Brigham Young University in Utah, explained how many immediately put weight back on

"Ozempic is effective at reducing cravings... however well this works, it works until it doesn't," the expert explained.

"At around two years of use, people find that the sweet cravings return to normal."
