Man who had operation which left him 'close to death' reveals what he saw as he was 'dying'

A man has opened up about his near death experience and what his 'thoughts turned to' alongside what he saw.

James Reynolds went into hospital to have his gallbladder removed telling himself it was 'just another day in the office,' however, something went 'wrong'.

James explains he sent a text at 2:17pm and then headed into the surgery, expecting it to take an hour and then to be in recovery for around 20 minutes - he woke up over three hours later, he writes for the Mail Online.

When he woke up, he looked down on himself and saw dressings over four parts of his body where the surgeon had gone in to take out his gall bladder, he then tried to look to the wall to find a clock and figure out what time it was.

During this time, growing frustrated not being able to make it out, a nurse rushed to his side, telling him: "James, you need to breathe."

James recalled knowing it 'was not an originary request' even in the 'haze of anaesthetic and fentanyl' he was in, but that being on drugs also meant he 'thought [he] had done something wrong'.

Despite this, no matter how hard he tried to tell himself to, he 'could not respond' and 'could not move' to breath.

James tried his best to breath, but found himself unable, telling himself to 'wake up' but he 'couldn't remember how'.

Instead, he found himself stuck 'staring at that stupid clock' as medical professionals dashed around him.

He recalled the 'white of the room bec[oming] steadily more vivid, like turning up the exposure on a photograph' and his 'thoughts cleared'.

"My thoughts turned to my mother and my father, and then to nothing. I could only spectate as my world went white," he continued. "My life did not flash before my eyes. I did not see God. There was just white.

'Oh well,' I thought. 'I guess that's that.'"

Thankfully, it wasn't it for James.

He came around, a doctor informed him the surgery had gone well but he'd been administered two doses of fentanyl.

James reported being left with a 'feeling of not being in control' but is overall 'grateful'.

He resolved: "Again, for my doctors it was another day in the office. But for me, I accept, it was unusual. 'Near-death' is a relative term and I might never know the true risk.

"[...] I do know that in those important moments, important as they felt, those around me did all that was required to make sure I was okay. They operated smoothly and professionally to help me through when I could not help myself."
