It’s the debate that has been going on for centuries - what really happens after death?

With hundreds of different beliefs and religions in the world, everyone's views are different.

The sad reality is that no one really knows the answer until after death, but one atheist has taken to Reddit to share what they saw during their terrifying near-death experience.

The thread, which was posted on the forum site last week, had one curious user asking: “I am wondering about any atheists or former atheists who had an NDE, what was it like?”

The curious poster got a real-life response pretty quickly, and what they saw was shocking.

Sharing their near-death experience (NDE), the user, who identifies as an atheist, began: “NDE are tailored for oneself, they are all different. I was pretty good with nothingness after life, didn't bother me at all.”

“During the NDE I was surprised there was something after, and I dismissed it for years cause it wasn't my frame of reference. Now I'm not a follower of any institutionalized religion, but I know there is something after death.”

Explaining exactly what they saw during the terrifying time, the user continued: “During my NDE, I was in love and light, and I saw 3 entities observing the scene. Seemed to be two males and one female, couldn't see the difference between them, but I could feel it.”

It’s not only Redditors who have had NDEs, either. In fact, many of our favourite celebrities have also been in the haunting position and have revealed what they saw.

American actor Jeremy Renner was critically injured in a snowplow accident in 2023, which left him close to death.

Revealing all in his memoir, the star, who had over 30 broken bones from the incident, revealed that he ‘temporarily died’ while waiting for an ambulance.

“I could see my lifetime. I could see everything all at once. In death, there was no time, no time at all, yet it was also all time and forever,” he said.

Speaking more in depth about his experience on the Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast, the star continued: "It's a wonderful, wonderful relief to be removed from your body. It is the most exhilarating peace you could ever feel.

"You don't see anything but what's in your mind's eye. Like, you're the atoms of who you are, the DNA, your spirit. It's the highest adrenaline rush, but the peace that comes with it, it's magnificent."

Back In Action star Jamie Foxx was also close to death in 2023 after he suffered a brain bleed, leading to a stroke.

Speaking about what he experienced in his Netflix special, What Had Happened Was, Foxx revealed: "Your life doesn't flash before your face. It was kind of oddly peaceful. I saw the tunnel. I didn't see the light. I was in that tunnel, though.

"It was hot in that tunnel, am I going to the wrong place?"
