If you are a person that finds it easier to sleep with no clothes on, then it's probably a good thing to keep it up, according to a doctor.

While the research into the subject is limited, there has been a few experts who've spoken about how sleeping naked could be good for you, even in the winter.

It's not like sleepwear is particularly cheap nowadays either, but one health expert has advised that you may not want any form of pyjamas at all.

Of course, there's always downsides to everything and sleeping naked is no exception - obviously, one example is if someone breaks into your house, but I guess that could also work in your favor, too.

However, asides from scaring away possible burglars, there are a few potential health benefits in doing so, according to the Sleep Foundation.

Of course, sleeping nude is going to mean you're cooler as compared to if you wear pyjamas to bed - but being too chilly could positively impact your sleep.

Because our bodies are regulated by our circadian rhythm, which cools and warms us up throughout the day, sometimes your body might be keeping warm when it shouldn't be, which can impact your sleep quality.

Sleep medicine physician, Dr David Rosen said: "Keeping cool at night is a simple way to improve sleep quality. For those who prefer to sleep with a thick and warm comforter, sleeping naked is a good way to counterbalance that extra warmth."

But that's not all as sleeping in the nude can also impact the appearance and health of skin; as when someone doesn't get enough sleep, their skin is more susceptible to wrinkles, drooping, swelling, and seeing the appearance of dark circles.

Similarly, it could help with your relationship in the bedroom, as, according to the Sleep Foundation, kipping skin to skin has scientifically been proven to lower stress levels and promote intimacy between couples as it triggers oxytocin, otherwise called 'The Love Hormone'.

Such bedroom routine can also lead to a boost in self-confidence, which certainly isn't a bad thing.

"In addition to decreasing stress, sleeping naked with a partner may help you feel good about your body. Spending time naked around others increases self-esteem and a positive body image," the Sleep Foundation states.

If the idea of sleeping naked is new, then the foundation also provided some tips to help those embrace being nude between the sheets.

First of all, you need to change or wash your sheets at least once a week for increased hygiene, as they add: "Having a few sets of sheets can help keep things fresh and clean."

Showering before bed is also a good idea, while it's probably wise to inform your partner of the switch to nude sleeping and perhaps you can even consider them to join you.

If you're a frequent sleepwalker, however, it's likely best to wear at least underwear to avoid some awkward conversations with housemates.
