Nearly 10,000 people have signed up to be in with a chance of winning free subs for life.

Subway is planning to make history by offering a brave superfan all the subs their heart desires. The only thing they have to do is make a huge life change by officially changing their name to ‘Subway’.

No big deal, right?

The popular sandwich chain is on the hunt for its biggest and most dedicated fan and it seems there are a lot more of them than you might expect.

Nearly 10,000 sandwich lovers said ‘yes’ to getting a new moniker in just 96 hours, showing the overwhelming response to Subway’s viral 'Name Change Challenge' by the staggering number of people up for a name change.

Announced on July 26, the Name Change Challenge entry period lasted from August 1 to August 4.

During the three days, Subway fanatics were asked to commit to legally changing their name to enter.

Participants had to be a legal resident of the United States and be at least 18 years old (19+ in Alabama and Nebraska, and 21+ in Mississippi).

Back in 2022, one Subway superfan camped outside for two whole days to get a footlong tattoo of the Subway Series logo in exchange for free Subway sandwiches for life.

Subway fans are a passionate bunch, aren't they?

The fast food restaurant will ‘name’ the winner (literally) later this month. The new ‘Subway’ will not only get a brand new name, but they’ll also be reimbursed for all the legal and processing costs to complete the name change process.

So, just in case you were wondering, the Name Change Challenge is totally legit.

The winner will enjoy free sandwiches for life from Subway’s menu, which includes the newly launched freshly sliced meats in U.S. restaurants plus the new line up of Deli Hero subs.

The Deli Heroes include: Titan Turkey, Grand Slam Ham, Garlic Roast Beef and The Beast.

“The addition of freshly sliced meats is the most impactful yet as it gives our guests a better sandwich - raising the bar even higher for the brand that defined fresh,” Trevor Haynes, Subway’s North American president, in a press release last month.

“We can’t wait for America to taste the difference and see how far we have come on our journey.”

And we can't wait to meet the new 'Subway' - a new life full of Subway subs awaits...
