Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside and dipped in your favorite sauce - you can't far go wrong with some fries.

It's thought that Paris street food vendors first invented French fries in the late 1780s, while other supposed origin stories link them to Belguim.

Despite where they might have come from, they're now served up across the globe in high-end restaurants and fast food chains alike.

But foodies reckon they've figured out the ideal way to order Five Guys' signature fries on every visit.

Unlike other fast-food joints, Five Guys use peanut oil to fry their double-cooked fries fresh onsite. But if you make a special request before ordering, they'll become 'a thing of beauty', as one fan put it.

As previously reported by Delish in 2018 and CozyMeal this year, if you ask Five Guys employees for their spuds to be cooked ‘well done,' your fries will come out crunchier than usual.

The fries are cooked for longer, hence making them crispier - and for many, more enjoyable.

Customers have been raving about the secret menu hack for a while, taking to social media to share their thoughts.

Over on X (formerly Twitter) one fan said: "The trick is to order Five Guys’ fries “well done” or “extra crispy”. It can vary from location to location too. If you find a good one though… they’re amazing."

A second also agreed: “Order your five guys fries well done... thank me later."

A third said: "@FiveGuys fries ordered well done/extra crispy are a thing of beauty.

"Don't understand why they aren't served this way by default."

Meanwhile, another took it a step further, reckoning: “Five guys fries well done with extra Cajun are unbeatable."

Regular Five Guys customers already know they'll end up with what feels like a mountain of fries with their order.

The side is served up in a 24-ounce cup, much larger than those on offer at fast food competitors, but as if that wasn't enough, the cups are also filled to the brim, so you'll find plenty of fries spilling over their containers and into the bottom of your paper takeaway bag.

In 2022, one of founder Jerry Murrell’s sons revealed that giving out supersize fries portions was a conscious business decision.

“I won't name names, but other restaurants just don't give a satisfying amount of fries,” Chad told Food Republic.

“We always give an extra scoop. I say load 'em up and make sure they get their money's worth."
