With Halloween now officially upon us, in true spooky fashion the White House once again kept up with its annual tradition of hosting a trick or treating event for kids on Thursday evening.

The light-hearted event, which takes place to celebrate the spooky holiday every year, sees the president and first lady set out onto the White House lawn to hand out treats to children in attendance.

This year was no exception, with President Trump and his wife Melania both in high spirits as they gifted the children with a bountiful array of chocolate and sweets.

However, eagle eyed fans couldn’t help but notice how the president was recreating his now-viral moment from 2019.

The iconic moment from his first term in office, saw Trump initially baffle the child, who was dressed as a Minion from the Despicable Me franchise.

Rather than hand the child candy like he did with everyone else, he instead placed the sweet treat on top of the kid's head where he couldn't reach it, only for it to slide off.

Melania, following her husband's lead, also did the same – with the kid looking utterly bemused, standing around awkwardly wondering where their candy had gone until someone picked it up from the floor and put it in their bag.

The quirky moment soon going viral. You can refresh your memory below:

Now, six years later, it appears the president was keen to recreate the moment, as he placed a Hershey’s chocolate bar on the head of an equally baffled child who was dressed as DJ Marshmello, with his signature rectangular marshmallow helmet.

Immediately after the moment took place, users flocked to social media to point out the throwback move from Trump and to share their views on the bizarre moment.

“Why is he putting candy on heads again? idk man it's giving me-core energy... doing dumb things just to feel seen, except I make mine look a little prettier,” wrote one user.

“I don't care what anyone says about him, he is actually the funniest guy,” wrote another.

A third then commented: “This the “dad joke” of Halloween!”

A fourth user then offered high praise, adding: “This is epic. I love the commit to the bit. Or maybe he’s confused idk either way comedy golden bull era.”

There was even a tongue in cheek round of political commentary from fans too, with one quipping: “I'm a single issue voter and it's this.”

Hundreds of children and their families attended the Halloween bash on Thursday evening, the night before All Hallow’s Eve itself, with attendees including trump parents and children of military and law enforcement personnel, as well as foster and adoptive families.

White House staffers were also in attendance, as children paraded past the president in an array of colourful costumes ranging from superheroes and princesses – to one kid that was dressed as the world leader himself.
