Disney has announced that the Avengers Campus will be expanding at Disney California Adventure following its 2021 opening at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim.

The company announced it is expanding the park at the D23 Expo - which is described as 'the ultimate Disney fan event'.

In a post on Twitter, the official Avengers account said: "JUST ANNOUNCED: During the Legends Ceremony at #D23Expo, CEO Bob Chapek shared that Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure is expanding with a third attraction with a brand-new story that will bring guests into battle alongside their favourite Super Heroes."

In a follow-up tweet, they also said that more information would be coming on Sunday (11 September) during Josh D’Amaro’s Hall D23 presentation featuring special guest Kevin Feige.

Currently, Avengers Campus has two attractions - Spider-Man's W.E.B. Slingers and Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout.

Marvel has also been debuting new characters from Disney+ shows and films in the park as well.

Alongside that, visitors can also expect the usual themed restaurants they would expect at Disney, like the Pym Test Kitchen - where you can 'refuel with Ant-Man and The Wasp’s size-defying fare at this epic eatery at Avengers Campus'.

Both Marvel and Disney have remained tight-lipped on what the new ride may be, but that hasn't stopped fans speculating.

One fan said: "If I had to guess, I’d say it’s likely some sort of simulation ride, possibly like Star Tours since it says that the riders will be brought along on the battle.

"Plus, if it was like Star Tours, the villain/mission could be different each time you ride it."

Meanwhile, a second added: "The way he was talking about villains makes me thinks they're doing a Thunderbolts ride of some kind."

Walt Disney Imagineer Brent Strong spoke to ComicBook.com before the Avengers Campus opened its doors, and the company's ambitions seem to remain the same.

He said: "So first of all, you know, the mission to inspire and empower the next generation of heroes is so important, that we've assembled heroes from across all of space and time for that, for that mission.

"This is where we truly get to step up and answer the call and become heroes, and join Spider-Man on an action-packed adventure where you actually get to sling webs just like Spider-Man."
