There are all kinds of factors that influence baby names - from pop culture, to historical trends, religion and even travel.
Then there's the 100-year baby name rule, which claims that baby names come back into fashion approximately every century.
Choosing a baby name is a very personal choice, but experts have noticed certain trends: which names are trending with parents again, and which are so down the rankings that they're likely to be pushed off the charts altogether.
Babycenter looked at which names in the top 1,000 plummeted between 2024 and 2025, discovering some pretty interesting findings.

They realised that names with unique spellings are becoming less popular, as well as monikers inspired by places.
Names beginning with D and K, as well as those ending in Y, are also on the downward trend.

The experts also predicted which names are likely to be extinct within the next year, and some are pretty surprising.
These include girls' names such as: Charleigh, Mckinley, Prisha, Ezra, Sasha, Mía, Kenna, Kori, Dior and Shaikha.
Meanwhile, top boys' names that could disappear include: Kylian, Atharv, Enoch, Crue, Huxley, Salman, Camilo, Advik, Emmitt and Garrett.

Although there are plenty of names on the way out, the naming experts over at Nameberry have come up with a list of trends for the new year, explaining that, amidst much of the doom and gloom in the headlines, parents-to-be are looking for names filled with fantasy or inspired by their favourite books or reality TV shows.
These include ancient history themed names; showgirl-inspired monikers - thanks to the success of Taylor Swift's Eras Tour - soulful and spiritual names with biblical references; stylish boomer names, such as Nancy and Betsy; romantasy options inspired by fantasy novels and names that include numbers, such as Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker's son, Rocky Thirteen.
A renewed interest in some of the biggest novels in British literature is said to be fuelling a rise in quintessentially English names, too.
With the likes of Wuthering Heights, Sense & Sensibility and Pride and Prejudice, names including Bram, Bronte, Celia, Darcy, Eyre, Fielding and Tess are likely to be inspiration for parents this year.
