Nicki Minaj has hit back at Latto for 'age shaming' her during a spat between the two rappers erupted on social media.

It all started when Minaj, 39, apparently heard that her most recent hit, ‘Super Freaky Girl’, will reportedly not be considered for the rap categories at the 2023 Grammys and will compete for Best Pop Solo Performance instead.

The ‘Roman’s Revenge’ rapper had a lot to say about the category change, as she aired her thoughts on Twitter.

“I have no prob being moved out the RAP category as long as we r ALL being treated FAIRLY,” she tweeted to her 26 million followers, before referencing ‘Big Energy’, the crossover hit by Latto remaining in the rap category.

“If SFG has 2B moved out RAP then so does Big Energy!”

“ANY1 [sic] who says diff [sic] is simply a Nicki hater or a troll. I’d actually LUV 2 c a [sic] more street record win- male OR female! IJS rightIsRight”.

When a fan on Twitter shared screenshots of Latto calling ‘Big Energy’ a pop song on Twitter, 10-time Grammy nominee Minaj simply replied: “Yikes”.

Another Barb – as Minaj’s fans have come to be known – noted: “Anaconda was nominated for Rap Song. Wouldn’t you say SFG and Anaconda are sonically similar. So what changed??? #grammys.”

Latto, 23, caught wind of the trouble brewing online. “Damn I can’t win for losing… all these awards/noms I can’t even celebrate,” she tweeted, which attracted over 20,000 likes in six hours.

Minaj responded by sharing text messages from Latto, who agreed that ‘Super Freaky Girl’ should not have been shifted to the pop category but stated that her name and her song did not need to be mentioned to prove Minaj's point.

The text reads: “I agree [with] you however because of where we left off ion [sic] think u need to bring my name/song up to prove ur [sic] point.”

Minaj accompanied the screenshot with a tweet calling Latto a ‘Karen’. She said: “This Karen has probably mentioned my name in over 100 interviews. Says she waited in line for Pink Friday w|her Barbie chain on, bangs, pink hair…but today, scratch off decides to be silent; rather than speak up for the black woman she called her biggest inspiration.”

Latto replied and clarified she sent the text because she ‘didn’t wanna do the internet [sh*t]’ with someone she ‘looked up to’.

She added: “Just like the 1st time I DMed u asking about ur [sic] ongoing subtweets. I wanted to speak up cuz [sic] like I said I do agree but the way u going about it seems malicious esp. after how we left off.”

This lead to Latto calling out Minaj’s age in relation to sending ‘countless subtweets’ directed at her. “I’ve ignored countless subtweets since March and instead addressed u in the dm. You’re asking why I didn’t speak up in ur defense… it’s the same answer I gave u when u asked why I didn’t congratulate you. Ur literally older than my mom tryna be a bully @NICKIMINAJ”

Minaj quipped back: “All this time I thought you was at least 35.”

The mum-of-one followed this tweet by calling out ‘age shaming’. She retorted: “Age shaming when you look like YOU the one pushing 40. Age shaming but was BEGGING for a feature. Imagine what dem genes gon do in 10 years Oh so you in your 20’s. Oh ok then. At least it match your album sales. You sold 20K right? Mad u flopped. That’s why u rlly [sic] mad”.

Prior to this, Minaj suggested Latto ‘made up’ the subtweets ‘in her head’ because she declined the two songs Latto wanted her featured on.

“It was an actual person ON tiktok,” Minaj said regarding who she was subtweeting. “A creator. Not even an artist. I’m sure the Barbz have receipts. It goes to show she made up these “subtweets” in her head simply b/c she sent me 2 songs I declined to do features on. They all do this.”

The 2023 Grammys will take place on Sunday, 5 February. Nominees will be announced on 15 November, with final-round voting taking place between 14 Dec to 4 January 2023.
