Stranger Things star Joe Keery reaches number one in the UK singles chart with original track

The actor's music career has been given a well-deserved boost by his Stranger Things fame

Stranger Things may have come to an end, but Steve Harrington star Joe Keery has continued to go from strength to strength, with his hit song making it all the way to the top of the UK singles chart.

'End of Beginning', which was originally released in 2022, soared through the rankings to reach the coveted top spot earlier this week, largely thanks to fans of the critically acclaimed Netflix show.

Released under the name 'Djo', it previously peaked at Number 4 in the charts back in 2024, but as more and more fans have tuned into the Stranger Things finale, a wave of TikTok edits using Keery’s track have seen it rise in popularity.

Prince's 'Purple Rain', Kate Bush's 'Running Up That Hill' and The Police's 'Every Breath You Take', which all feature on the hit show's soundtrack, are also all in this week's top 20.

Keery’s song, however, doesn’t appear in the retro-inspired series at all, yet has still managed to capture the hearts of fans thanks to its addictively catchy vibe that perfectly resonates with the Stranger Things aesthetic we’ve all come to love (complete with a healthy dollop of synth).

Alongside his acting role as fan favorite Steve Harrington in the Netflix show, Keery has also been enjoying a blossoming music career as Djo. So far, he has released three LPs under the moniker: Twenty Twenty, Decide and The Crux.

In an interview with NME about the song last year, Keery said: “I’m not trying to live in the past. I have new memories that I’m linking to [Chicago]. I’m not 27 anymore. That’s a part of me, maybe, but not the whole part.”

Stranger Things concluded after five epic seasons on December 31, ending an almost ten-year journey that had captivated fans from day one. While there are currently no plans to release any more episodes or a sequel to the series, we do know that a spin-off is currently in the works.

Speaking to Variety, co-creator Matt Duffer confirmed one detail fans may have missed will have a huge role in the upcoming spin-off, and it all hinges on the power behind the mysterious rock found by Henry Creel.

When grilled by a journalist about its significance, Matt commented: “I’m gonna be sketchy here, Kate, because I will say that is — can I say this, Ross? Because it’s just hard to not say it.”

He continued: “[It’s] spinoffy, yeah. You pinned us down. So annoying. I do want to explain, just because people’s expectations go in certain directions.

“The spinoff is going to delve into that and explain that, and you’re going to understand it. But it’s a completely different mythology. So it’s not a deep exploration of the Mind Flayer or anything like that. It’s very fresh and very new, but yes, it will answer some of the loose threads that are remaining.”
