Play the opening chords of 'Welcome To The Black Parade' and any My Chemical Romance fan will immediately be transported back in time to the noughties, but now, the band is officially back with their first music in eight years.
Yep, you heard me. You might have thought you were out of the angsty years, but it's time to dig out the heavy eyeliner and black t-shirts once again - if you ever left them behind in the first place, that is.
The band completely took fans by surprise as they dropped the six-minute song, titled 'The Foundations of Decay', with no warning whatsoever late last night (12 May).

My Chemical Romance announced the release simply by posting a dark image and a link to their social media pages, but that was all it took to send fans into a frenzy.
"My Chemical Romance just dropped their first song since 2014, please check in on your emo friends. They are not okay," the Twitter account for Alternative Press magazine wrote.

"Not to be dramatic but i'm climbing out of my coffin," another fan commented.
The band, made up of Gerard and Mikey Way, Frank Iero and Ray Toro, is currently preparing to launch its long-awaited reunion tour after splitting up in 2013.
They announced their reunion in 2019 and played one show that winter, but the coronavirus outbreak meant that fans were forced to go without them for a little bit longer. Thankfully, though, the time has finally come as the UK and European leg of the tour is set to begin in Cornwall next week, followed by shows in North America which will begin in Oklahoma City on 20 August.

Despite having released some of the best emo tracks of the noughties, the band admitted they were taken by surprise by the response to the news of their reunion.
In a post on Instagram following the announcement, My Chemical Romance wrote: "It is truly unbelievable to us the happiness we have experienced over the past two days. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for the warm welcome back. We truly did not expect this. See you soon."
'The Foundations of Decay' has already racked up hundreds of thousands of views on Youtube, with one fan reminiscing about listening to the last song they released before splitting up and thinking 'I need to savour this moment because I’ll never hear a new MCR song for the first time ever again'.

Looking back, the fan added: "I’m so glad I was wrong. Welcome back."
