Tom Holland says he'll quit Spider-Man if his one condition isn't met

Tom Holland has revealed the one condition that must be met to get him to return to Spider-Man.

The British actor has had several outings as Peter Parker/Spider-Man - first appearing back in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, he reprised the role the following year for Spider-Man: Homecoming, becoming the youngest actor to play a title role in an MCU film.

As well as appearing in two sequels - Spider-Man: Far From Home and Spider-Man: No Way Home - Holland also starred in Avengers: Infinity Wars, Avengers: Endgame and in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it mid-credit scene in Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

His most recent return to the MCU - in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home - was a box office smash, pulling in almost $2 billion against a budget of $200 million.

In a recent interview with Yahoo! Entertainment, Holland spoke about the possibility of stepping back into the MCU and admitted that he loves the character.

“If I just played Spider-Man for the rest of my life, I’d still be the luckiest kid alive,” he revealed.

But it seems that when it comes to appearing in a fourth sequel, Holland has some reservations.

When asked if would be swooping back in to play the web-slinger in the future, he said: “I’m going to have to plead the fifth there, because I’m not prepared to start talking about the future of Spider-Man - as everyone knows, I love him, he changed my life. I love the character.

“Should we find a way to tell his story and do justice to him, we will do so, but if we can’t find a way to do that… if we can’t find a way to compete with the third one, then he’ll swing off into the sunset.”

Fair enough.

And even if he does fancy returning to the role, it’s unlikely to be any time soon, with the star recently announcing that he would be taking a short career break after filming AppleTV mini-series The Crowded Room ‘broke’ him.

The actor said that while he ‘enjoyed’ filming the dark psychological series, it had been intense.

So much so that Holland said he took a week off afterwards to ‘lay low’ on a sunny beach, but now plans to take an even bigger chunk of time away from acting.

He continued: “I disappeared, I went to Mexico for a week and had some time on a beach and lay low.

“And I’m now taking a year off, and that is a result of how difficult this show was.”
