Tom Holland has revealed he’s taking a break from acting after his latest role ‘broke him’, but says he feels his hard work ‘wasn’t in vain’.
It follows a man called Danny Sullivan who is accused of a crime he doesn't remember committing, and also stars Amanda Seyfried.
A synopsis says: “The Crowded Room follows Danny Sullivan (Tom Holland), a man who is arrested following his involvement in a shooting in New York City in 1979.
"A captivating thriller told through a series of interviews with curious interrogator Rya Goodwin (Amanda Seyfried), Danny’s life story unfolds, revealing elements of the mysterious past that shaped him, and the twists and turns that will lead him to a life-altering revelation.”
The show is set to premiere on 9 June, starting with the first three episodes before the next seven are released weekly.
He’s admitted that the process took a toll on him emotionally, not least because he’s still on the ‘learning curve’ as a producer.
In an interview with ExtraTV, he said: “It was a tough time for sure. You know, we were exploring certain emotions that I have definitely never experienced before, and then on top of that, being a producer, dealing with the day to day problems that come with any film set, just added that extra level of pressure.
“But I really enjoyed it, I loved the learning curve of becoming a producer. I’m no stranger to hard work, I’ve always lived by this idea that hard work is good work. And I really enjoyed it.
“But then again, the show did break me. There did come a time where I was sort of like, ‘I need to have a break’.”
Holland said he took a week off afterwards to ‘lay low’ on a sunny beach, but now plans to take an even bigger chunk of time away from acting.
He continued: “I disappeared, I went to Mexico for a week and had some time on a beach and lay low.
“And I’m now taking a year off, and that is a result of how difficult this show was.”
Holland added: “I am excited to see how it turns out, and I feel like our hard work wasn’t in vain.”
The Crowded Room premieres on AppleTV on 9 June.
