Marvel drops first trailer for The Marvels with the return of Brie Larson

Brie Larson is back in action as Captain Marvel

Brie Larson is back in action as Captain Marvel, as she leads a group of all-female heroes, in the first trailer for The Marvels.

Larson made her debut as the superhero four years ago, when she flew on to the scene as Carol Danvers, before returning that same year to help the Avengers take down Thanos in Avengers: Endgame.

The hero has remained quiet so far as Phase 4 of the MCU got underway, but now she's well and truly back in action. Check out the trailer for The Marvels below:

The trailer kicks off with Samuel L. Jackson back as Nick Fury, but it soon focuses on the women in charge, as Larson leads alongside Teyonah Parris from WandaVision, and Iman Vellani from Ms. Marvel.

The Marvels is set after the events of the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel, in which Vellani took on the role of KamalaKhan - the young Ms. Marvel.

A post-credits scene in the series showed Kamala seemingly swapping places with Carol - and this is where The Marvels kicks off. The trailer for the movie indicates that it's not only Kamala and Carol involved in the swapping, but Parris' Monica Rambeau, too.

The swaps take place any time they use their powers - a mishap which quickly proves to cause some chaos.

Larson made her first Captain Marvel appearance in 2019.

An official synopsis for the film reads: "Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe.

"When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team up and learn to work in concert to save the universe.”

Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, set a high bar for the upcoming movie as he compared it to 2012's The Avengers, saying: "There's something immensely powerful about seeing Monica and Kamala and Carol together in a frame.

"To me, it's only akin to the first Avengers movie and seeing the six of them together in a frame. It's chill-inducing. They're so great together, and they all have different histories with another."

The Marvels is currently set to be released on 10 November, 2023.
