A new Netflix true crime documentary has thrown up 'new leads' for investigators to chase about missing Amy Bradley's whereabouts - almost three decades since she disappeared.

The 23-year-old was on a family vacation with her mom, dad and brother when she vanished without a trace just three days into their Royal Caribbean cruise, on March 24, 1998.

Amy, of Petersburg, Virginia, was partying on board the Rhapsody of the Seas and was last seen sleeping in a chair on her cabin’s private balcony at around 5.30am.

Roughly a half-hour later, as the cruise liner was preparing to dock in Curaçao - a Caribbean island located just 40 miles off the coast of Venezuela - Amy was missing.

Now, Ari Mark and Phil Lott, directors of the three-part Netflix series titled Amy Bradley is Missing, revealed that they have been receiving 'tip-offs' on the alleged whereabouts of Amy - who the FBI is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for any information leading to her recovery.

"There have been tips actually coming in that I can't publicly share," Mark told CBS Mornings.

"Obviously when you get this sort of exposure and you're on a platform like Netflix, and it has the incredible reach that it does, you're going to get a lot of people out there who are going to want to help - and we've activated them.

"That was the point of this, but we also want to be really careful about vetting those tips carefully and making sure that law enforcement is involved. So, you know, it's definitely a process, but hopefully something shakes loose."

However, the documentary revealed just how difficult it was for the Bradleys to find answers, pinnacled by the fact that several witnesses only stepped forward to reveal what they knew about Amy's disappearance years later.

When asked about why people are only just stepping forward, Lott replied: "I mean look, everyone has reasons and we're very sympathetic to that.

"We interview folks in the documentary who've got, you know, work reasons or they may perhaps aren't just sure. I don't think anyone's going on vacation expecting to walk into the middle of a massive mystery.

"So, I think what unites all of these folks is it's only later that they connect the dots, it's only perhaps when they've seen a newspaper or a story on a TV segment about Amy, that they draw the connections and actually start realizing that what they saw wasn't just an event in their vacation - it was something that could be a clue."

Amy Bradley is Missing is available to watch on Netflix now.
