Film fans have expressed excitement for the upcoming remake of the 1994 film The Crow after the trailer drops online.

A gruesome trailer has just dropped for Rupert Sanders’ remake of The Crow and has got fans eager to watch it.

While Hollywood is full of remakes, some fans of the original Crow have said they are excited to see a new take on the cult classic.

This time around, the film will be led by Bill Skarsgård - who's also set to appear in the Nosferatu remake this year - and FKA twigs and is due to be released on June 7 this year.

Both the remake and the original 1994 film are based on the graphic novel by James O’Barr, however the original has long been marred in controversy - with lead actor Brandon Lee killed during the filming of the movie.

As part of the story, Lee’s character is meant to walk into his apartment to discover his fiancé being beaten and raped. One of the perpetrators is then meant to shoot Lee.

However, when filming, when a prop gun was fired, a lead tip of a bullet from a previous scene was in the barrel of the gun and ruptured a major blood vessel when the blank was fired.

Regarding the new film, while some fans have admitted to being excited others have been more apprehensive.

“Am watching it! I love me some Bill Skarsgård & the trailer looks promising,” one user wrote.

“DO NOT THREATEN ME WIT A GOOD TIME! One of my favorite movies of all-time,” another excited fan added.

"It actually looks intriguing and better than I thought it would. Bravo!" commented another.

However on the flipside, one less than impressed viewer wrote: “Why does the Crow look like Machine Gun Kelly dressed up like Florida Joker?"

“The only thing this trailer accomplished was making me want to watch the original,” added another.

A third wrote: “The original had a really gritty look to it, and while this has ultra violence it looks like, it kind of screams more John Wick than Crow.

"Part of the Crow is that he’s literally supposed to be a dead guy. Instead this just comes across as a dude with powers that can’t die."

But I suppose we will have to wait and see if the film can live up to the lofty expectations of some fans. According to some, this remake has big shoes to fill.
