In film and TV, the superhero genre is one of the most popular about with many films coming from the genre each year.

There is also mega money involved with superhero content, too, as two Marvel films have surpassed $2 billion worldwide gross.

These two being Avengers: Endgame and Avengers: Infinity War - both of which are juggernauts in the entertainment space.

For years, there has been this big battle between Marvel and DC, with both one upping each other with new characters, stories and settings.

But another player that has recently come to the scene is Amazon Prime's The Boys, which has actually topped them all in terms of popularity.

For those that are unaware of The Boys, it is set in a universe where superpowered people are recognised as heroes by the general public and owned by a powerful corporation known as Vought International.

The organisation ensures that these people are marketed and monetised aggressively, though, most end up being corrupt.

The Boys has been big on Prime since its first season in 2019.

The Eric Kripke directed show is now three seasons deep, with the first season launching on Prime back in 2019.

The Boys sits at a 93 percent critic score on Rotten Tomatoes - showing how highly rated it is by some of film's most famous reviewers.

The Daily Telegraph's review said: "It is violent, provocative and can be read both as a critique of the milieu to which it belongs and of the American Dream."

Meanwhile, The Daily Beast's review read: "At a time when there is so much pressure to say the right thing, tell stories responsibility, and have something important to say, there is something refreshing about a TV series that is unabashedly gratuitous."

As for 2022, The Boys actually topped all MCU shows in terms of the most watched during the whole year.

According to Nielsen stats, The Boys was the 11th most streamed showed across any platforms in 2022.

It was behind the likes of Stranger Things, Wednesday, Cobra Kai and The Crown.

Though it did beat the likes of Great British Baking Show, The Last Kingdom and The Umbrella Academy.

The Boys was watched for a total of 10.6 billion minutes in 2022, ahead of any of the MCU shows.

In fact, no Marvel shows are found in the top 15 of Nielsen's stats, which will come as a surprise to many.
