Ryan Gosling has opened up about what it was like to shoot the most expensive Netflix movie ever made, particularly alongside co-star Dhanush.

In the 2022 action thriller, The Gray Man, Gosling stars alongside the likes of Lightyear's Chris Evans, No Time To Die's Ana De Armas and Bridgerton's Regé-Jean Page.

Indian actor Venkatesh Prabhu Kasthuri Raja – professionally known as Dhanush – also takes on a lead role in the Russo brothers' most recent release.

Gosling has since revealed what it was like starring alongside Dhanush considering The Gray Man is the 38-year-old actor's first Hollywood movie.

In an interview with The Quint, Gosling explained how 'very excited' everyone was to have Dhanush in the film.

He said: "He is incredible. He is a great actor and has such an amazing presence on screen. He is so precise, he never made a mistake.

"We shot this fight sequence and we reshot it multiple times. It underwent so many different incarnations. Dhanush never made a mistake, and it seemed inhuman.

"He is so funny and charming. The biggest difficulty was pretending to be enemies, because I just liked him so much."

Gosling also spoke about how much 'more demanding' the film was than he first anticipated.

Unlike Dhanush – who starred in martial arts film Pattas in 2020 and action drama Karnan in 2021 – Gosling explained how he 'didn't have a frame of reference'.

"I have starred in films with action in it, but I have never made a full-blown action film. This isn't a normal action film, because instead of four, five action sets there are nine.

"It was just extreme for everyone, especially for myself, because I was the new guy," he said.

Gosling explained how 'demanding' the film was in terms of how 'full-blown' the action in it is.

In The Gray Man, Dhanush takes on the role of 'lethal force' Avik San, who chases after Gosling's character - the CIA's most skilled mercenary, Court Gentry.

The official synopsis reads: "When a shadowy CIA agent uncovers damning agency secrets, he’s hunted across the globe by a sociopathic rogue operative who’s put a bounty on his head."

The film also marks the first time Gosling has worked with directors the Russo brothers, Joe and Anthony.

The actor reflected: "Because they are brothers, they are already collaborating. They are very collaborative. They really welcome ideas from their actors and the crew members. The brothers have been making these kind of movies for over a decade, so you couldn't work with anyone more experienced."

The Gray Man – which cost a whopping $200 million to produce – was released in select theatres from Friday, 15 July.

While the film has received some savage reviews from critics, you can make your own mind up about it when it comes to Netflix on 22 July.
