Ryan Gosling’s newest film The Fall Guy is a love letter to stunt performers.

With that in mind, it shouldn’t have been a surprise to anyone that the film features an insane death-defying stunt that set a Guinness World Record.

The film releases tomorrow in the US and already it is being talked about as one of the films of the summer.

Debuting to a whopping 86% on Rotten Tomatoes, reviews are praising the stunts, as well as the core performances of Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt.

Reviewing the film for Empire, Kelechi Ehenulo said: “With some incredible stunts and Gosling and Blunt on top form, this gloriously entertaining comedy is a love-letter to the unsung heroes of cinema.

The film focuses on Gosling as a stunt performer, brought out of retirement for a film being directed by his ex-girlfriend, being played by Emily Blunt.

The Fall Guy is most heavily influenced by David Leitch, the director of John Wick – who himself started out life as a stuntman.

Leitch said in a featurette about the world-record stunt: “Fall Guy is a reflection of my experience as a stunt performer.

“We’re making a movie that is a homage to stunt performers, why don’t we make sure we are doing the best and biggest versions of those, and maybe we can break some records?”

The record in question is for a ‘cannon roll’, a stunt in which a nitrogen cannon is fitted to a car and fired – allowing cars to be rolled without the need for a ramp or outside factors such as rigs.

Whilst the previous record was for seven rolls of a car with a cannon – Fall Guy looked to beat this with Gosling’s stuntman.

See how they did it below:

With eight and a half rolls, Logan Holladay now holds the Guinness World Record for the most cannon rolls in a car during the making of a movie.

Wordy, but impressive nonetheless.

Holladay took the record from Adam Kirley on the set of Casino Royale.

Speaking about his record, he said: “When I learned about The Fall Guy going into production, I knew I had to be part of it.

"I had a pretty good feeling that I had broken the record because it felt like the spinning was never going to stop. It was a surreal moment and I'm incredibly proud of what the team achieved."

The Fall Guy releases May 3 in the US.
