Oscars viewers are taking to social media to call out the In Memoriam section of the Oscars for not including recently passed away actor Michelle Trachtenberg.

On February 26, Gossip Girl star Michelle Trachtenberg was found having passed away at One Columbus Place in New York at the age of 39. Her death was confirmed by her family, friends and authorities.

Today's (March 3), 97th Academy Awards ceremony paid tribute to late film stars however, missing from the screen was Trachtenberg.

Trachtenberg was best known for her recurring roles in series such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Gossip Girl but she also appeared in movies like Ice Princess and 17 Again.

A representative of her family confirmed Trachtenberg's passing in a statement.

It reads: "It is with great sadness to confirm that Michelle Trachtenberg has passed away. The family requests privacy for their loss."

The NYPD said in a statement: "Criminality is not suspected. The medical examiner will determine the cause of death. The investigation remains ongoing."

Co-stars of Trachtenberg took to social media to pay tribute to the star such as Gossip Girl co-star Blake Lively.

However, when the 97th Academy Awards took a moment to honor recently departed stars, Trachtenberg was pointed out by various viewers as being missing and fans of the actor weren't pleased after not seeing her honored at the Oscars ceremony among other stars.

One Twitter user said: "WTF??? #Oscars2025. In Memoriam tribute didn't include Michelle Trachtenberg???? WTF SHE DIED BEFORE GENE AND HE WAS IN IT."

"Not including Michelle Trachtenberg in the In Memoriam should be considered a federal crime," another added.

A third argued: "Not including Michelle Trachtenberg is totally disrespectful. She was an amazing and fantastic actress on the small and big screen."

"Michelle trachtenberg not being mentioned in the in memoriam section of the oscars is upsetting , you are and will remain so so loved and admired michelle," a fourth added.

UNILAD has contacted the Oscars for comment.

The In Memoriam section was led by Morgan Freeman who reflected on the work of Gene Hackman - the Hollywood actor passing away at the age of 95 discovered alongside his wife Betsy Arakawa who was 63 years old.

The pair were found passed away at their home alongside their dog, who was also dead.

Other stars to be shown on the screen included the likes of legends Dame Maggie Smith, Dame Joan Plowright, Donald Sutherland, Kris Kristofferson, Shelley Duvall, David Lynch and James Earl Jones.
