Oscars viewers stunned after learning what actor is doing all the voiceovers during the ceremony

A familiar face is doing the voiceovers at the 97th Academy Awards

Viewers tuning into the Oscars have been left stunned after discovering what well known actor is doing the voiceovers in Los Angeles.

The 97th Academy Awards held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, sees a ton of Oscars up for grabs tonight which include Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Director and Best Supporting actor.

Comedian and former talk show host Conan O'Brien is hosting, and he has caused a bit of controversy with his opening skit.

Away from that, viewers may have noticed a certain someone is doing the voiceovers during the ceremony.

Last year, the role was taken by David Alan Grier, while Ronald Reagan was the first in the role, would you believe it.

But this year a recognisable face - and voice - has taken over.

"Is……is that nick offerman doing the winner voiceovers for the oscars," one person asked.

And after a funny interaction with O'Brien, which included the voiceover making a big deal about the talk show's first time hosting the Oscars and the pressure that comes with that, the camera panned backstage to The Last of Us actor.

"NICK OFFERMAN WHAT ARE YOU DOING THERE? FOR GOD'S SAKE I LOVE YOU," a second person quipped.

Another said: “Honestly loving Nick Offerman’s conviction and authority in the room tonight as the ‘voice of god.’

“Fingers crossed he gets pulled into a bit tonight, or we at least see him on camera.”

While a fourth person commented: "I just realized Nick Offerman is the announcer. If this is the Academy’s way of getting a newer generation of viewers, it’s working for me."

Offerman is the iconic actor who played Ron Swanson in Parks and Recreation, and also had a key role in The Last of Us season one as Bill.

While he featured in the video game adaption series, Offerman previously revealed how he had never played the Naughty Dog game before due to an addiction he once had to Banjo-Kazooie.

During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! the comedian said: "Twenty-five years ago I played my last video game, and I'm very indulgent. I lost a couple of weeks to a video game called Banjo-Kazooie.

"Two weeks went by and I was like, 'oh my god the slow dopamine drip is so delicious'. Then it's over and you're like 'yes I won'.

"And immediately I'm like 'what have I done with my life'."

He added: "So I decided that I'm never going to do that again, and thankfully because games have gotten so good, like The Last of Us, that I think I'd be in a basement and I wouldn't even be going to audition for shows like this."
