Jennifer Lawrence has explained why she decided to take an acting hiatus before her starring role in No Hard Feelings.

The X-rated movie sees Lawrence playing a woman who is financially hard up, and comes across an interesting opportunity.

She is offered money to date a wealthy couple's 19-year-old son, who is also introverted and so has struggled with dating in the past. What follows is a raunchy comedy which sees Lawrence's character trying to bring the young man out of his shell.

The film also stars Andrew Barth Feldman, Laura Benanti, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Natalie Morales, Scott MacArthur, and Matthew Broderick.

The synopsis reads: "Maddie (Lawrence) thinks she's found the answer to her financial troubles when she discovers an intriguing job listing: wealthy helicopter parents looking for someone to 'date' their introverted 19-year-old son, Percy (Feldman), and bring him out of his shell before he leaves for college.

"But awkward Percy proves to be a real challenge, and time is running out. She has one summer to make him a man or lose it all."

No Hard Feelings was originally released in late June, though it's widened its reach recently thanks to a release on Netflix in the US.

The X-rated movie actually marked one of Lawrence's first films back after she decided to take a break from the screen following the release of 2019's Dark Phoenix.

The actor explained her reasoning behind her hiatus in an interview with Vanity Fair in 2021.

She said: "I was not pumping out the quality that I should have. I just think everybody had gotten sick of me. I'd gotten sick of me.

"It had just gotten to a point where I couldn't do anything right. If I walked a red carpet, it was, 'Why didn't she run?'"

The actor added: "I think that I was people-pleasing for the majority of my life.

"Working made me feel like nobody could be mad at me: 'Okay, I said yes, we're doing it. Nobody's mad.'

"And then I felt like I reached a point where people were not pleased just by my existence. So that kind of shook me out of thinking that work or your career can bring any kind of peace to your soul."

And it appears fans are enjoying seeing Lawrence back on their screens, with many praising the star for 'stealing' the show in No Hard feelings with one particular scene.

If you want to check it out for yourself, No Hard feelings is available to stream on Netflix now.
