People have noticed an odd similarity between the death of Charlie Kirk and a Nicolas Cage movie.
When a major news event happens, it's often the case that lots of strange theories emerge, and Kirk's death has been no different.
Kirk was fatally shot in the neck while speaking at a college campus event in Utah on September 10.
The far-right activist was known for his hardline views on the US civil rights movement, which he called a 'mistake', as well as women's reproductive rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and gun violence, calling some gun deaths 'worth it' to preserve Second Amendment rights.

Since Kirk's death broke the news cycle, some people have been taking deep dives on social media after noticing similarities to a Nicolas Cage movie.
Yes, it's Captain Corelli's Mandolin.
Not really. It's actually a 1998 movie starring Cage called Snake Eyes, which admittedly does have some odd coincidences when you put it next to Kirk's death.

But first, let's have an overview of the movie.
It's an action thriller in which Cage plays a detective called Rick Santoro who goes to a boxing match where a defence secretary is also in attendance.
At the match, the politician is assassinated, sparking a mystery that Cage's character must unravel.
The catch? The character who gets assassinated, played by Joel Fabiani, is called Charles Kirkland.

You have to admit that it is a similar name.
Taking to Twitter, one person wrote: "Wait, let me get this straight. In 1998, there was a movie where a political figure name Charlie Kirkland, gets assassinated by Tyler the executioner, on September 10th, and the entire world watches the execution? There is no way this is true."
Well, there are elements which aren't quite true.

There is a character called Tyler, the same name as the man suspected of shooting Kirk, but he's one of the boxers in the match where the shooting takes place and not the person who shoots the fictional Charles Kirkland.
Also, the date of September 10 in the movie isn't explicit.
As for the plot of the movie, the shooting sparks a mystery about arms development and geopolitics, with Cage's corrupt detective caught up in the middle of it.
It's certainly an odd coincidence that the names are so similar, but it's a bit of a stretch to go much deeper than that to put it mildly!

But then, what's the use of the internet if it's not going to dredge up odd conspiracies involving recent news events and Nicolas Cage movies from the 1990s?
