Viewers are flooding to social media in praise of thriller with 'plenty of gore, violence and mystery'.

If you've already binge-watched your way through all of Harlan Coben's bangers and don't know what to do while you wait for his 'idea' for a sequel to develop further, get ready to venture to the movie theater to have the hairs on the back of your arms raised over A24's latest hit.

    MaXXXine cast, crew and synopsis

The action thriller is the third in the X film series and was written and directed by Ti West, who also produced the movie alongside Jacob Jaffke, Kevin Turen, Harrison Kreiss and Mia Goth.

Goth also heads up the slasher as the lead actor, taking on the titular role of Maxine Minx, an adult film star turned Hollywood actor who auditions for a horror in Los Angeles in 1985.

Maxine lands the role but goes back to work her second job, watched by an eerie figure in the audience. After two of her friends are killed, her world spirals and she has to fight not just to prove her innocence but also to save her own life.

The film also stars the likes of singer Halsey, The Crown star Elizabeth Debicki and Emily in Paris lead Lily Collins, alongside Leave the World Behind's Kevin Bacon.

What are viewers saying about MaXXXine?

MaXXXine may've only been released on 5 July, but - at the time of writing - it's already amassed a solid audience score of 79 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, alongside a Tomatometer score of 74 percent.

And the love for the thriller has spilled out onto social media too.

One Twitter user said: "i’m still not over my experience watching #MaXXXine on the big screen with the loudest surround system i’ve ever heard. it really enhanced every brutal, and violent kill throughout the film. i loved the once a upon a time in hollywood style along with the intense soundtrack."

"The alley scene in maxxxine made my dad wince out in pain JDHEGEJS," another added.

The scene in question sees Maxine turn the tables on a would be attacker in the most gruesome way.

Forcing him to strip naked at gunpoint, she makes him lie down before using her stiletto to deliver a ball-splattering blow.

"Ti West demonstrates he is the greatest horror director, considering he edits all of his films. Mia Goth pours her heart into #MaXXXine and proves why she is a star! It’s not my personal favorite of the trilogy, i think Pearl is a stronger performance but still entertaining," another fan wrote.

A fourth commented: "MaXXXine isn’t a horror movie. It’s a tribute to the sleazy, violent, shot on video films of the ‘80s. It’s got plenty of gore, violence, and mystery though. Mia Goth gives her best performance of the trilogy. Easily my favorite of the three Ti West films. #MaXXXine."

MaXXXine is showing in cinemas now.
