Hugh Jackman's wedding joke in new Rick and Morty cameo appearance has aged like milk

The new episode of Rick and Morty already hasn't aged well.

Fans have gone wild for Hugh Jackman's Rick and Morty debut, but there was an undeniably awkward moment in the episode.

Jackman starred in the season seven premiere of the popular cartoon, which dropped yesterday (October 15).

Rick and Morty viewers had to wait over a year for the newest season to be released, and it appears as if it was worth the wait.

Jackman stars as himself in the episode, and fans were sent into a frenzy to learn that it was actually the Wolverine star voicing the cartoon version of himself rather than just an impersonator.

"HOLY F**KING ASS CRACKERS THAT ACTUALLY WAS HUGH JACKMAN?!?! #RICKANDMORTY," one person wrote on X.

"Getting Hugh Jackman for this episode was a big W," said another.

A third went on: "#RickAndMorty #AdultSwim Here I was expecting an impersonator but having THE Hugh Jackman voicing himself was a real treat."

Another Rick and Morty viewer raved: "Hugh Jackman in the season premiere. Bring him back for more!!!!"

While Jackman went down a storm on the show, others noted a particularly awkward scene where the Aussie actor refers to his marriage.

Jackman announced last month that he and his wife of 27 years, Deborra-Lee Furness, were splitting up.

The pair issued a joint statement that read: "We have been blessed to share almost three decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage.

“Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth.

"Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives."

The celebrity couple have two children together: Oscar, 23, and Ava, 18.

Then, on last night's episode of Rick and Morty, Jackman made a joke about his marriage which, in the wake of his split form Furness, is now a little bit awkward.

While cartoon Jackman is in his home - which he hails as the 'Jack shack' - he finds Mr. Poopybutthole looking at a photo of him and his wife on their wedding day.

"The best bloody day of my life," Jackman said.

"My wedding day was pretty great too," Mr. Poopybutthole replied - but the actor was actually talking about the Tony award placed in front of the photograph.

A viewer questioned online: "How long ago did they write this episode with Hugh Jackman and the wedding photo???"

"Yes, that was Hugh Jackman voicing himself in that awkward #RickAndMorty guest spot," penned another fan alongside of picture from the scene in question.

It's not totally clear when the episode when made but, with fans having to wait over a year for season seven to drop, it's likely to have been late last year or early this year Jackman filmed it.

The series typically take six to 12 months to create.
