Home Alone star explains why he refuses to attend any of the film's anniversary events

It comes as Home Alone approaches a milestone

One of the stars of Home Alone has revealed why he's going to be giving anniversary events a miss.

Christmas is now well and truly on the way, and for many people that can mean it's time to break out the Christmas movies and get in the festive spirit.

And one classic Christmas tale sees a lovable lone underdog using his wits and a series of tricks to take on criminals who are trying to steal something valuable - but enough about Die Hard.

Daniel Stern took on the role of Marv in Home Alone, one half of the dastardly 'Wet Bandits' alongside Harry, played by Joe Pesci, who target the home of Kevin McCallister after he is left behind.

Over the course of the classic movie, the hapless burglars are subjected to the Saw: Junior machinations of Kevin, including stepping on nails, having irons dropped on them, and having their heads blowtorched - all while just trying to make a sort-of-honest living as petty criminals!

But while he maintains that the movie is 'so funny' and 'full of heart', Stern has said he's not planning on coming to the 35th anniversary events of the classic.

Since the movie, he has become an artist and farmer and explained he prefers to stay in these days.

Speaking to PEOPLE, he said: "I don't leave my farm. It's no offense to the movie. I'm just ... a phone call, Zoom call, I'm in. but... I'm a bit of a homebody."

He explained that it gives him a lot of satisfaction how popular the movie has become, but he can find the spotlight a little much, despite people's good intentions.

"I love knowing that everybody loves it, but like, actual people come at me and say, 'We love it', It's a little overwhelming sometimes," he said.

Stern, 68, has now retired from Hollywood, and currently lives on a farm in California with his wife, where they raise cows and tend to groves of citrus trees, and he works as a sculptor - if that's not winning at life, I'm not sure what is.

While he didn't know it would become such a classic, Stern revealed he knew early on they had something special with Home Alone.

"I did know that it was a gem of a movie," he said.

"It was so funny, it was so true, and so I did know that. I was hopeful that we were making a great movie. I had no idea obviously - no one could - of the longevity of its life."
