The mom at the center of a hugely controversial Netflix series reportedly made a shocking admission about featuring in the show.

It's likely that you've now heard the name Kendra Licari. Kendra has become a globally known name of late after starring in Unknown Number: The High School Catfish.

The series is about Kendra's daughter, Lauryn, who was being bullied by someone via an anonymous number. The program proceeds to follow the investigation into who was trolling the teenage girl, with the police going on to work out that it was Lauryn's own mother.

Ultimately, Kendra went on to plead guilty to two counts of stalking a minor and was sentenced to 19 months to five years in prison in March 2023.

Kendra is now free, having been released from prison in August 2024.

Over the course of 2023 and 2024, the Licari family filmed Unknown Number: The High School Catfish, which dropped on Netflix on September 13.

    See the trailer here:

Kendra's case was covered in the media at the time she was arrested and sentenced but the docuseries has helped the story become globally known. At the time of writing, the Netflix show has been viewed for almost 42,000,000 hours across the world, per FlixPatrol.

Supposedly, Kendra was nervous to partake in the series, but ultimately she ended up enjoying it.

The director of Unknown Number, Skye Borgman, was asked by Variety why she thinks Kendra decided to sit down in front of the camera.

"She was nervous about going on camera, because just sitting down and telling your story is a nerve-racking thing sometimes," Borgman said.

"But she was so great, and she actually ended up really loving the experience. At the end of it, she said it was kind of fun."

She continued: "She laughed about things, and I think it was really an opportunity for her to think about things a little bit more in depth. Every time I would ask a question, she would really have to think about some things, and I think that was really good for her."

While Kendra seemingly enjoyed doing the documentary, getting her on camera was never a certainty.

"It was a long process with Kendra," Borgman previously revealed to Tudum.

Apparently, what appealed to her in the end was the opportunity to sit down and 'tell her story from her perspective and that Lauryn [could] see her do that'.

"She wanted to do it, I think, for her daughter," Borgman added.

Unknown Number: The High School Catfish is available to stream on Netflix now.
