Netflix viewers left 'immediately hooked' on '10/10' mini-series you can binge in one day

The new drama is star-studded with two Marvel actors, a Jurassic Park icon, a La La Land alumna, and more

A ‘10/10’ Netflix series starring a Jurassic Park icon is being lauded by TV fans, with many praising it for featuring the ‘most attention-grabbing opening scene’ they’ve ever seen on the streaming service.

A smorgasbord of classic movies and new television hits has been loaded onto Netflix this week, including Jaws and its subsequent follow-ups, a new true-crime series called Amy Bradley Is Missing, and Angelina Jolie’s underrated 2008 action flick, Wanted.

Another offering that drama fans are already obsessed with is Unatmed.

Despite it only being released on the streamer on Thursday (July 17), Untamed - which was filmed in British Columbia last year - has already collected some die-hard fans.

Check out the trailer for the series below:

“New @Netflix show UNTAMED has one of the best, most attention-grabbing opening scenes I've seen in any TV show in a long, long time. Immediately hooked. Highly recommended,” commented one viewer on Twitter.

A second claimed the streaming show was a solid ‘10/10’, while another typed via Facebook: “I binge-watched this and have to say it's one of the best l've watched Great job, Eric Bana and Sam Neil representing Oz..”

“Binged this last night! Was so good!,” said someone else.

A fifth Netflix subscriber commented: “Loved it. Binged it today couldn't stop!”

But what is it about Untamed that has people so obsessed with it?

For starters, as one Facebook user correctly stated, the national park thriller stars Bana, who has appeared in everything from Hulk to Troy and Steven Spielberg’s Munich.

Alongside him are Jurassic Park legend Sam Neill, Rosemarie DeWitt - whose credits include La La Land and the 2015 remake of Poltergeist - and Daredevil alumnus Wilson Bethel.

The programme, created by Twisters writer Mark L. Smith and his daughter Elle, spans six episodes, making it one of the latest mini-series to land on Netflix.

In the opening instalment of Untamed, you’re introduced to National Park Service Investigative Services Branch (ISB) special agent Kyle Turner (played by Bana), who is investigating the death of a young woman, dubbed Jane Doe, whose body has fallen from a cliff in Yosemite National Park.

So, what is the ‘attention-grabbing opening scene’ that has fans’ tongues wagging?

Two men are climbing up the side of a cliff face in Yosemite and, after a small slip, a dead body comes flying at them from the top of the cliff.

The remains narrowly miss the climbers, but in a real, nail-biting moment that could end up resulting in their deaths, the body snags on their line.

If you needed any more reason to check the series out, then know it has a solid 81 percent rating on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer right now, with various positive reviews from critics.

“Highly bingeable viewing, well-written, directed and produced and Bana’s on fire. Seriously moody, poetic, an exceptional series that stinks of authenticity and delicious dread,” said one film buff.

The Wall Street Journal typed: “Despite a title that seems calculated to pitch this six-part drama into the mental dustbin of adjectival crime dramas, Untamed is a mystery that this viewer binged with uncharacteristic enthusiasm.”

“Deeply layered and gripping, Untamed is a brilliant detective tale anchored by some of our worst human impulses,” Variety gushed.

“It is a story of pain, shame and the hope of redemption, even when there appears to be no way out.

All episodes of Untamed are now streaming on Netflix.
