A new crime series on Netflix has left viewers on the edge of their seats.

Drama and crime have been found to be some of the most popular genres for TV watchers in the US - two categories Netflix is very good for.

According to IMDb, some of the most popular TV shows at the moment include Apple Cider Vinegar, Apple TV's Severance, and The White Lotus.

And there's a particular crime series that's also on IMDb's list which might not have been on your radar until now.

Titled The Åre Murders, this Swedish-language series has been described as 'gripping' by Netflix viewers.

The five-part series debuted on the streaming platform on February 6, and has become one of the top 10 TV shows on Netflix. It currently sits in seventh place behind the likes of The Night Agent and The Recruit.

The synopsis for The Åre Murders reads, as per Netflix: "Police officer Hanna Ahlander has been suspended from her job in Stockholm and dumped by her partner when she moves to her sister's vacation home in Åre.

"When a young woman goes missing on the icy night of Lucia, Hanna can't help but start investigating the case. With a tough family situation and an understaffed police station, local police officer Daniel Lindskog reluctantly has to accept Hanna's help. But the big question is whether they can trust each other."

    Already intrigued? Me too.

People who have watched it took to Twitter to rave about the show, which is based on the books Hidden in Snow and Hidden in Shadows by Viveca Sten.

"TheÅreMurders on @netflix is one of the best I have seen so far in 2025. It had me on the edge of my seat," gushed one person.

A second said: "Just finished watching #TheÅreMurders on @Netflix_CA So good!!! Well done!!! Story, filming, cast are all excellent. Loved this series!!!"

"For those that have @netflix @NetflixUK and enjoy a Swedish crime drama you will love the gripping suspenseful show #TheÅreMurders," a third said of the series.

"It’s well paced with a great cast. The snow covered mountains/landscape are stunning."

Elsewhere, fans of the show are calling for another season to be made.

Backing up people's positive reviews, The Åre Murders currently boasts an 83 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Like viewers, Sten, who was a executive producer of the series, praised the cast of the show.

"It's hugely exciting to see the characters come to life through such talented actors," the author said.

"My dream, of course, is that the TV series will be just as popular and successful as the books have been both in Sweden and abroad."

The Åre Murders is now streaming on Netflix.
