A new Netflix thriller has been sending fans into a frenzy, with many praising one 'heartbreaking' scene in particular.

As the Christmas season comes to a close and we see the likes Home Alone and The Grinch disappear for another year, Netflix has been busy adding some new not-so-festive flicks.

A recent hit that’s been added is a terrifying true-to-life movie which follows a 1972 plane crash that was carrying the entire Uruguayan rugby team at the time of its descent.

After the vessel crashed, survivors turned the remains of the plane into a shelter, using suitcases, clothes and seats to shield themselves from the icy temperatures and even had to turn to cannibalism to survive.

The Netflix smash is based on true events.

“Following a plane crash in the remote heart of the Andes, survivors join forces and become each other's best hope as they navigate their way back home,” the Netflix summary for the film - titled Society of the Snow - reads.

While trying to survive in the snow, the team had to think smart in order to live, which included filling up bottles with snow and letting it melt to drinking water and raiding the onboard luggage for anything edible, such as candy and nuts.

However, things took a sinister turn after a week of surviving in the wilderness, and as supplies started to dwindle and the men became low on food, the thought of cannibalism began within the group.

One of the men remembered: “We shook our hands, and we say, ‘If I die, please use my body. So at least you can get out of here. And tell my family how much I love them.”

As movie fans watch in horror, praise has been given to director J.A.bayola for his depiction of the events and ‘for his talent in directing such a topic’, as one X user shared a specific scene from the film along with the comment:

“We need to talk more about J.A.bayola's extraordinary direction in society of the snow where he managed to deliver one of the most harrowing sequences in recent years”

Another shared the same clip from the film, when the plane is just about to crash land, and said: “a harrowing plane crash scene that is truly unforgettable. based on the astounding, real-life events of the 1972 Andes crash, J. A. Bayona's latest film."

Meanwhile, a third X user dubbed the scene 'truly brilliant'.
