Netflix star Ruth Codd detailed the heartbreaking reality of her life-changing injury, which led to her having both legs amputated.

The 29-year-old actor is best known for starring in The Midnight Club, How To Train Your Dragon, The Fall of the House of Usher and, most recently, The Celebrity Traitors.

And while many got to see a new side of Codd in the BBC show, she also documents her life on TikTok.

Codd has certainly been through the mill in recent years after she had one leg amputated when she was 23, following an injury she sustained while playing soccer aged 15 that did not heal properly.

The actor has since had her second leg amputated below the knee, telling fans in a TikTok video: "Hi guys, so I have some good news and some bad news. Good news, we’ve had a full circle moment, I’m back making TikTok content in my parents’ house."

Codd continued: "Bad news, I can’t do it in front of that lovely blue floral wallpaper anymore, due to the fact that, that room is upstairs, and I’ve just had my second below-knee amputation.

"So unfortunately, those facilities are not available to me at the current moment in time, yes, so lots of unpack there for everyone involved."

The Ireland-born star previously penned a first-person piece for the Irish Examiner, detailing the heartbreaking reality of what she has gone through in recent years.

In the 2022 article, she wrote: "People often tell me I need to be more positive and I’m like; ‘Don’t stand there in front of me with your two perfectly working legs and tell me that.’

"My injury is the greatest challenge I’ve faced in my life so far. I injured it playing soccer at the age of 15. It never healed correctly so until I was 23, I was on and off crutches, getting loads of operations. Because of nerve damage and chronic pain, I chose to get it amputated."

Codd went on to explain that she spent eight years in and out of hospital, stating her 'whole life revolved around trying to heal my leg'.

The 29-year-old continued: "For years, I didn’t see it getting any better. I was stuck in a really bad mindset and I was p***ed off at life. When I made the decision to amputate it, things finally started to turn around. It was a relief. I could get on my life.

"I was just messing around in school and fell over playing soccer, which is the worst part because I don’t even like soccer. At least I could have gone out in blaze of glory doing something that I loved but – no!"

During an appearance on Under Your Skin with Grace Neutral, Codd opened up on the reasons for her second amputation, saying it would benefit her 'quality of life'.

"It's just that this foot, I was on crutches for the bones of eight years and the way I used my crutches I was always kind of on my tippy toes," she said ahead of the operation.

"So the joints in my feet were destroyed by the end of the eight years. And it's just kind of the same thing. It's gone past the point where they can kind of do anything about it."
