A Netflix rom-com starring Sofia Carson has viewers 'crying for two hours' but has captured their 'hearts'.

Just when you thought the rom-com genre had shrivelled up as quickly as you do when you when you see a boy with a mullet while swiping, a goldie has come along which is so relatable boyfriends are at risk.

If you've already watched the top five Netflix rom-coms from earlier this year after feeling like you'd seen 'every good one out there,' fear not, because the streaming service has just released another one.

Adapted from the novel of the same name by Lori Nelson Spielman, The Life List was written and directed by Adam Brooks.

The movie stars Sofia Carson (Purple Hearts), alongside Kyle Allen (The In Between), Sebastian de Souza (Fair Play), and Connie Britton (Nashville).

Boyfriends, you've been warned:

It centers around a young woman named Alex (Carson) whose mom sends her off to complete a teenage bucket list, seeing her travel around, unravelling family secrets, what she truly values in life and perhaps falling in love - well, duh, it is a rom-com - along the way.

The Life List was first released onto Netflix on March 28, and it's already gone down a treat with viewers, reaching the top spot globally for movies in English on Tudum with 24,400,000 views at the time of writing.

And so impactful is the film, some viewers have reportedly ended their relationships.

In an interview Carson told Entertainment Weekly: "Adam [Brooks] [director] would call me all the time after test screenings, and he would say that there were so many people that would [tell him], 'I ended up breaking up with my boyfriend,' or 'I ended up changing or quitting my job'."

The actor notes how that's 'the beauty of [the] film' in how it raises 'all these existential questions' and is ultimately 'so much more than a rom-com'.

She reflected how many of us forget what it was like to be young and be 'a fearless dreamer' and so starring in a film which highlights that took her 'back to her [younger self] in so many ways'.

"I left that set a different Sofia that I think little Sofia would be so deeply proud of. I've been writing my own 'life list' recently, and it was beautiful to see a few of the things that I dreamt of have come true," she continued.

And the love for the movie has continued online.

A Twitter user wrote: "Everyone told me this is a romcom but nobody told me i’d be crying for 2h rethinking my life choices, the life list has my heart."

"I know it’s just a romcom but The Life List has me sobbing & rethinking my whole life — but I guess that’s what art does," another added.

And a third resolved: "I just finished watching The Life List, and what really stuck with me is that it’s never too late to change and redirect your path. Life is beautiful, messy, and complicated. It doesn’t always turn out the way you expect, and that’s okay."

The Life List is available to watch on Netflix now.
