Netflix fans say drama series with 96% ratings is ‘even better’ on re-watch

"So good and not a boring moment."

A Netflix drama viewers wished they'd discovered sooner has a finale which left them 'crying for a week'.

The streaming service quite literally has a title for every mood - including laugh-out-loud dramas and some frisky entertainment too, if you're into that.

With thousands of titles on Netflix, it can be easy for us to overlook some gems, even if they're already pretty popular.

And that's most certainly the case for new viewers of this five-season TV series.

The show, based in Los Angeles, follows the Fishers, who run a rather unconventional family business: a funeral parlor.

The sudden death of their father brings estranged son Nate (Peter Krause) back home.

Reunited with his family, he joins brother David (Dexter's Michael C. Hall) in taking over Fisher and Sons Funeral Home.

Skilfully blending weighty themes like death and grief with offbeat humor, the show has won praise for its unflinching honesty and timeless appeal.

The show we're referring to, if you hadn't already guessed, is Six Feet Under, which ran on HBO between 2001 and 2005 before joining Netflix in November 2023.

Taking to Reddit's R/Netflix community, one curious subscriber asked: "What's a movie/series on Netflix that you've ignored for a long time but ended up being very good when you watched it?"

While people suggested the likes of Game of Thrones and, ironically, Dexter, there was another clear winner in the form of Six Feet Under.

"I just watched Six Feet Under. It was a lot better than I expected it to be!" one person wrote, to which a second replied: "Watched that for the first time like a year ago. I always thought what the hell is funny about a funeral parlor?"

But they were won over by the end, as they resolved: "I admit, it's one of the best series I've ever watched."

"It has one of the best series finales I’ve ever seen and left me bawling," a third chipped in.

A fourth typed: "Yes! So good and not a boring moment. And that ending!"

While another admitted: "I swear I cried for a week after that ending!"

Over on Rotten Tomatoes, the series was awarded a near-perfect 96 percent by viewers.

"Rewatched the entire series and was surprised by forgotten bits. Even more enjoyable the second time around," one fan reckoned.

But another - still rating the show five stars - warned: "I watched it when it originally aired... and then watched it again 20+ years later.

"Don't try to watch these episodes back to back all day long. You will be overwhelmed."

All five seasons of Six Feet Under are available to stream now on Netflix.
