Netflix fans rage as iconic 00s comedy series with 97% RT score binged for 170 million hours is leaving platform

'This news ruined my night'

Netflix is removing a 'phenomenal' 00s series from its catalogue and fans aren't happy.

The streaming service switches up its content every few weeks, but removing this hit comedy is a step too far for some.

While it's likely down to a licensing deal expiring, subscribers are gutted to no longer be able to binge-watch the show, which stars Barbie's America Ferrera.

All four seasons joined Netflix US in August 2023. The TV series been watched for an incredible 173,300,000 hours since, as per FlixPatrol figures.

The show follows Ferrera as a bright, quirky, Mexican‑American woman who lands a job in fashion - despite lacking fashion sense herself.

The woman, from Queens, begins working for Mode, a high‑end Manhattan magazine, as assistant to editor‑in‑chief Daniel Meade (Eric Mabius).

Her kindness and integrity is challenged as she gets familiar with the superficial world of fashion.

Airing on ABC from September 2006 to April 2010, the show spans four seasons and 85 episodes.

The series in question is, of course, the one and only Ugly Betty.

Not only has it racked up an impressive 97 percent Rotten Tomatoes score across all four seasons, but the show has won more than 50 awards, including three Emmys and two Golden Globes.

"It’s honest, endearing, entertaining, great writing, and the cast and acting is phenomenal," one fan wrote, adding: "Wish they'd make more shows like this now."

A second agreed they 'really don't make TV like this anymore,' adding: "This show was leaps and bounds ahead of its time, featuring a meaningfully diverse cast of loveably flawed characters. Do yourself a favor and watch this show ASAP."

A third described the show's creativity as 'off the charts,' admitting: "We are just finishing up binge watching all four seasons of Ugly Betty and we're already starting to mourn."

But if you were planning a re-watch, then you'd better get moving - Ugly Betty leaves Netflix US on August 1.

Taking to Reddit to discuss the show's removal, one fan asked in the R/UglyBetty community: "Is Ugly Betty leaving Netflix? While logging into my Netflix, it said it was leaving soon?!"

Confirming the news, viewers made their frustrations clear. "This news ruined my night," one person said. "It's my comfort show, I was genuinely so moved when I watched and finished the show for the first time."

"I just finished binge watching it for the 100th time last night good timing since it’s going soon. So disappointing cause they never have it for long enough," a second said.

"I’m so bummed. It’s my go-to feel good show. Booo Netflix!" a third weighed in.

All four seasons of Ugly Betty are streaming on Netflix US until August 1.
