Curious about what to watch on Netflix this month? We've got you covered.

The streaming service boasts thousands of titles that it's sometimes easy to get lost in the fuddle of it all. So instead of aimlessly scrolling through Netflix trying to find your next binge watch, we've rounded up the 15 best new or returning TV shows and films hitting the streaming platform in October (listed in order of release).

Enjoy!

Genre: Horror/Slasher

How to watch: Halloween releases October 1 on Netflix.

Netflix is kicking off spooky season by adding David Gordon Green's 2018 Halloween to its roster.

The eleventh installment in the overall Halloween film franchise (which ignores all of the other sequels), Halloween sees Jamie Lee Curtis reprising her iconic role of Laurie Strode, and brings her back in an all-too familiar fight against serial killer Michael Myers.

Hailed by critics and fans alike, Halloween is largely considered to be the best Halloween film since the original 1978 film of the same name and is the perfect watch to start its namesake holiday month right.

Yellowjackets Season 1

Advert

Starring: Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci, Ella Purnell, Sophie Thatcher

Genre: Thriller/Mystery/Horror

How to watch: Season 1 of Yellowjackets releases October 1 on Netflix.

Perhaps one of the most underrated shows on TV right now, Yellowjackets is a survival/supernatural thriller series set across two timelines. One takes place in 1996 and follows a high school girl's soccer team, the Yellowjackets, whose plane crashes while on the way to a national tournament and leaves them helplessly stranded in the Ontario wilderness for 19 months.

Advert

The other timeline is set in the present day and follows the girls' lives as adults, teasing how they actually managed to survive in the wilderness for 19 months when they were teenagers and beckoning questions on whether or not something far more sinister was involved.

The show is scary, devilishly good, and by far has one of the best first seasons of a show I've ever seen. While only Yellowjackets' first season will be made available to stream on Netflix, the series actually has a second season out that you can stream on Paramount+ or Prime Video.

22 Jump Street

(Sony Pictures Entertainment)

Starring: Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, Ice Cube

Genre: Comedy/Action

How to watch: 22 Jump Street releases October 1 on Netflix.

Released in 2014, 22 Jump Street is a sequel to the iconic 21 Jump Street, starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill as police officers who go undercover at a college to bust a drug ring.

Advert

While 22 Jump Street may not admittedly be as good as its predecessor, it still packs on hilarious hijinks along with Tatum and Hill's undeniable comedic chemistry that makes for a fun movie night at home.

It Chapter Two

(Warner Bros.)
(Warner Bros.)

Starring: Bill Skarsgård, James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, Bill Hader

Advert

Genre: Horror

How to watch: It Chapter Two releases October 1 on Netflix.

Based on Stephen King's widely beloved novel of the same name, the It films follow the journey of a group of friends who swiftly discover that their once quaint town is actually home to a looming evil that may or may not enjoy disguising itself as a killer clown.

While the first It film released in 2017 sees the group dealing with Pennywise the Clown (Skarsgård) as children, It Chapter Two jumps forward a couple of decades later and sees them trying to put a stop to Pennywise once and for all as adults.

The film is spooky. It's sometimes unironically funny. And it's the perfect watch for Halloween month.

Love is Blind Season 7

Starring: Nick and Vanessa Lachey

Advert

Genre: Reality

How to watch: Season 7 of Love is Blind releases October 2 on Netflix.

Hosted by Nick and Vanessa Lachey, Netflix reality show Love is Blind takes a group of singles and pairs them up in pods where they talk to each other for weeks on end without ever actually seeing each other in an effort to determine if love really is blind.

However, when their time at the pods comes to an end, the show's new found couples are allowed to see each other for the first time — and based on how they feel after finally getting a good look at each other — decide if they want to move forward and get married. It's bonkers, bold, and absolutely brilliant.

Advert

This new season of Love is Blind is set in Washington D.C. and its first six episodes will premiere on Netflix on October 2. Episodes 7 to 9 will drop the next week on October 9, followed by episodes 10 and 11 on Oct. 16. The finale airs October 23.

Unsolved Mysteries: Volume 5

Genre: Documentary

How to watch: Unsolved Mysteries: Volume 5 releases October 2 on Netflix.

A reboot of the widely popular, decade-spanning docuseries, Unsolved Mysteries dedicates each episode to different stories that have left people stumped, whether it be paranormal phenomena or cold cases.

Picked up by Netflix in 2019, Unsolved Mysteries returned to the streaming site with its original creators, John Cosgrove and Terry Dunn Meurer, at the helm.

Heartstopper Season 3

Starring: Kit Connor, Joe Locke, Olivia Colman, Stephen Fry

Genre: Romantic comedy/Drama

How to watch: Season 3 of Heartstopper releases October 3 on Netflix.

Based on Alice Oseman's webcomic and graphic novel of the same name, Heartstopper is a coming-of-age series that follows the lives of a group of high schoolers as they navigate love, sexuality, and their futures.

The show primarily focuses on the relationship between two classmates, Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) and Nick Nelson (Kit Connor), who gradually realize that there may be something more than friendship between them.

At the time of the release of its first season, Heartstopper was lauded by critics and fans alike for its romance and representation of LGBTQ themes.

Heartstopper's first two seasons are available to stream on Netflix.

The Platform 2

Starring: Hovik Keuchkerian, Milena Smit

Genre: Horror

How to watch: The Platform 2 releases October 4 on Netflix.

A sequel to the 2019 horror hit, The Platform films are set in a vertical prison system where a free-floating platform delivers food to inmates who are willing to do anything to get the biggest slice of the pie.

While the first film delved into a prisoner trying to figure out a way to get food equally distributed across all the prison's levels, it seems that The Platform 2 will instead tackle prisoners trying to escape the dystopian cell block.

The Menendez Brothers

Starring: Lyle and Erik Menendez

Genre: Documentary

How to watch: The Menendez Brothers releases October 7 on Netflix.

Shortly after the release of Ryan Murphy's drama series Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, Netflix is gearing up for a documentary release on the Menendez case — told by the brothers themselves for the first time in 30 years.

Convicted in 1996 for the murder of their parents, José and Mary Louis 'Kitty' Menendez, Erik and Lyle are set to recount their side of the story and the alleged assault they experienced at the hands of their parents for years.

Calling from the Donovan Correctional Facility where they are currently in custody, the brothers can be heard saying in the documentary's trailer that they hope to disclose the 'truth' throughout the film, which is also set to explore their trial at large and its aftermath in the zeitgeist.

Scream

(Paramount Pictures)
(Paramount Pictures)

Starring: Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Neve Campbell

Genre: Horror/Slasher

How to watch: Scream releases October 11 on Netflix.

Released in 2022, Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin's Scream revamps the franchise with a new cast of characters who are tasked with dealing with Ghostface's notorious killing sprees.

Starring Jenna Ortega, Scream is set 25 years after a series of brutal murders rocked the town of Woodsboro, California and sees a new killer donning the Ghostface mask wrecking havoc once again.

With Courteney Cox and Neve Campbell reprising their iconic roles from the franchise, Scream promises fresh fun, slasher mayhem, and the perfect amount of black comedy that made the franchise what it is.

A Quiet Place: Part II

(Paramount Pictures)
(Paramount Pictures)

Starring: Emily Blunt, Cillian Murphy, Djimon Hounsou, John Krasinski

Genre: Post-apocalyptic/Horror

How to watch: A Quiet Place: Part II releases October 12 on Netflix.

Following the massive success of its first installment, A Quiet Place: Part II brings audiences back into a post-apocalyptic Earth infested with blind extraterrestrial creatures that rely on their hypersensitive hearing to pounce on their prey.

The films follow the survival story of one family as they try to navigate living in total silence to keep the creatures at bay and their children alive. Packed with jump-scares and occasional gore, A Quiet Place: Part II is a thrilling second installment in what's now become a three-part franchise from the mind of John Krasinski.

The Lincoln Lawyer Season 3

Starring: Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Neve Campbell, Becki Newton, Angelica Maria

Genre: Legal drama

How to watch: Season 3 of The Lincoln Lawyer releases October 17 on Netflix.

Based on Michael Connelly's book series of the same name, The Lincoln Lawyer follows Mickey Haller (Garcia-Rulfo) a defense attorney in Los Angeles who typically works out of his chauffeur-driven Lincoln Navigator.

Each season of the show so far respectively tackles different books from Connelly's series, with the first season adapting his 2008 novel The Brass Verdict and the second, his 2011 novel The Fifth Witness.

The courtroom drama is known for its twists and turns, and season three is shaping up to be The Lincoln Lawyer's most dramatic season yet.

Woman of the Hour

Starring: Anna Kendrick, Daniel Zovatto, Nicolette Robinson, Tony Hale

Genre: Crime/Thriller

How to watch: Woman of the Hour releases October 18 on Netflix.

Anna Kendrick's directorial debut, Woman of the Hour is based on the true story of serial killer Rodney Alcala, who in 1978 appeared on a television game show, The Dating Game, in the midst of his killing spree.

On the show, Alcala won a date with contestant Cheryl Bradshaw, and the subsequent revelation of his murdering of five women coined him the nickname 'The Dating Game Killer.' Kendrick stars as Bradshaw while Daniel Zovatto as Alcala in this sure to be thrilling flick.

Simone Biles Rising: Part Two

Starring: Simone Biles

Genre: Documentary

How to watch: Simone Biles Rising: Part Two releases October 25 on Netflix.
